SOUTHPORT v BRAINTREE – Pick: 1 AH0 – 01 April 2014

Six of the best for Southport at Haig Avenue?

National League Tips

Football – England – Skrill Premier

Tuesday 1st April 2014 – Kickoff:  1945hrs

Tuesday night brings us another betting opportunity on lowly Southport as they prepare for the visit of Braintree Town as the hosts go in search of a sixth straight home win.

Despite sitting in 18th position in the Skrill Premier, Southport are actually the form team at home in the Skrill Premier having racked up five straight wins at Haig Avenue with victories over Salisbury City 3-1, Grimsby Town 2-1, Dartford 3-0, Macclesfield Town 4-1 and 2-0 over Forest Green Rovers. The Sandgrounders are unbeaten in their last four overall with points earned on the road away at Chester and Kidderminster in 2-2 and 1-1 draws respectively, while their overall home record stands at an impressive  11-4-4  28/17, a record that most of the top six teams would be proud of.

In addition, Southport have lost just once in their last nine at Haig Avenue which was a 1-2 loss to Wrexham but they’ve also beaten five of the top six so far in the Skrill Premier (they’ve yet to play Halifax Town) which is a fantastic record for any team, let alone a side that are sitting just four points clear of the relegation zone!

Visitors Braintree Town had their three game winning streak brought to an abrupt end on Saturday when they lost 0-1 away at Gateshead who have quietly moved up into third place five points behind Cambridge United. Braintree had previously racked up three on the trot against Aldershot Town, Welling United and Nuneaton Town, and they also have a pretty good record away from home too.

Braintree’s away record stands at  7-5-7  22/18 although in recent weeks their performances on their travels have dropped a little despite wins at Forest Green and Welling United; they’ve also suffered defeat at Woking 0-1, Lincoln City 0-2 and of course Gateshead. Mixed results in the last few weeks mean that Southport have a better than fair chance of getting something against The Iron tonight I fancy.

Given Southport’s incredible record over the top sides at Haig Avenue this season I’ll continue to back them here tonight against Braintree Town whose away results have become a little erratic, but I do recommend taking the round ball on the hosts just in case: could be a 2-1 win for Southport though.

Pick:  Southport AH0 @ 1.99 Ladbrokes is great value
