St Johnstone v Celtic Betting Tip Under 2.5 goals – Saturday 14 February

St Johnstone will still be licking their wounds after going out of the Scottish Cup to Championship side Queen of the South last Saturday, especially considering they were holders. They get a chance to respond to that disappointment by hosting league leaders and current Premiership Champions, Celtic. It might not be the easiest of fixtures but manager Tommy Wright should have no problem in motivating his players. Their priority is now finishing in the top six and that’s a race which looks like being very close with Dundee and Kilmarnock in behind.

Since a disappointing few days in December where they lost to Dundee United and drew at home to Ross County, things have been very good for Celtic and Ronnie Delia. Their record after seven competitive games in 2015 reads seven wins, 16 goals scored and none conceded. It’s a run which has silenced some of the doubters who questioned the Norwegian’s credentials. They have taken control of the league, advance to the final of the League Cup and reached the quarter finals of the Scottish Cup since the turn of the year. It doesn’t get much easier for them, though, as they have another big test with the visit of Inter in the Europa League.

The Perth club are the third lowest scorers in the Premiership having managed only 21 goals from their 24 games. Their games average only 1.92 goals all in and their 12 home games have totalled just 26 goals. They might not be the most entertaining of sides but when you factor in the loss of Stevie May during the summer then it’s not a huge surprise that they have struggled in front of goal.

Celtic’s two transfer window signings made the perfect start to their new careers on Wednesday by both scoring goals against Partick Thistle. Being ineligible for both domestic cup completions they will be desperate to play as much as they can in the league to put themselves in contention for the matches against Inter. As well as their goals in midweek their inclusion added some pace to the Celtic attack which had been missing for a lot of the season.

It is a tough task for any Scottish side coming up against Celtic at the moment such is the form of the Champions. Craig Gordon is protecting a run of eight games without conceding a goal and with the struggles St Johnstone have had going forward this season, I don’t see there being many goals in this game. With a big European game on the horizon I think Celtic will look to replicate their recent away games by killing this one off early and protecting their lead.
