The venue of my next pick is Richmond Park as I take a look at the Irish Premier Division and in particular the hosts St Patricks taking on league leaders Dundalk with the hosts having apparently very little to play for.
It’s been a patchy run of results of late for the hosts St Patricks as they’ve registered just two wins from their last nine league matches overall, with both wins coming at their Richmond Park ground against second from bottom Wexford Youths and second placed Cork City as they’ve been victorious against teams at either end of the division,
But on home turf they’ve lacked any sort of consistency and this is reflected in their overall home record which stands at 6-3-6 25/19 and the last time they hosted tonight’s opponents Dundalk, they were on the end of a 4-0 battering.
Onto Dundalk then, and as mentioned, they sit top of the Irish Premier Division with a useful four-point cushion over second placed Cork City and although they narrowly lost out to Russian giants Zenit St Petersburg in their recent Europa League group match, they’ve been causing quite a stir on the european stage lately.
They recently held Dutch side AZ Alkmaar to a 1-1 draw in Holland which was followed up with a 1-0 home win over Maccabi Tel Aviv, while back on the domestic scene, they head into tonight’s encounter on the back of four wins on the trot.
In addition, Dundalk have won their last five matches away from home amidst an overall record of 13-0-3 40/7 which includes no fewer than 10 clean sheets on their travels to date.
I’m therefore confident they can pick up something in Dublin this evening.
