STEVENAGE v NEWPORT – Pick: 1 AH0 – 07 March 2015

Stevenage look to build upon recent form

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Saturday 7th March 2015 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

The Lamex Stadium is the venue of my next pick as hosts Stevenage look to build upon their improved run of form which sees them currently knocking on the door of the play-off pack.

Recent wins against Hartlepool United, Southend United and Plymouth Argyle have kept them in the hunt for a possible play-off spot, and a win today over current play-off residents Newport County, would see the hosts jump into their place. Stevenage have also held the likes of Bury and Wycombe Wanderers (both currently in the top five of the division) to draws, so they’ll fancy their chances of getting something here this afternoon.

Stevenage’s form at The Lamex has been pretty solid all season and currently hold an overall record of  11-2-4  29/18 having lost just once in their last eleven matches on home turf which is a very good record in this division.

Newport County currently occupy the last remaining play-off berth ahead of today’s trip to Stevenage, but they suffered a surprise 1-0 home defeat to Mansfield Town on Tuesday night which stalled their push for promotion. In fact, Newport have lost three of their last four at Rodney Parade, so an away trip might just relieve some of the pressure they might be feeling.

However, this will be no easy task for The Exiles despite their recent back-to-back away wins at high-flying Wycombe Wanderers and Burton Albion no less, while their overall away record stands at  7-3-7  16/23.

This match-up looks to be a very tight one, and with the draw being a very possible outcome, I’ll have the stalemate on myside for this pick. Stevenage might just edge this perhaps 1-0 in a low-scoring affair.
