STEVENAGE v OXFORD – Pick: 1 AH0 – 31 January 2015

Stevenage to give Oxford a rough ride

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Saturday 31st January 2015 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Stevenage’s recent impressive run of form was brought to a halt last Saturday when they were beaten 3-2 away at Shrewsbury Town, but they return to their Lamex Stadium for this afternoons clash with Oxford United as they look to return to winning ways.

Stevenage had won five of these six matches with wins over Exeter City, Dagenham & Redbridge, Cambridge United, AFC Wimbledon and York City along with a draw against Morecambe. At home, Stevenage have been dominant in recent weeks having won their last three on the trot, while their overall record stands at a solid  9-1-3  24/14.

The hosts have also won six of their last seven home matches and they could once again get on a roll against Oxford today as they look to make in-roads into the play-off pack.

Oxford United have gone four matches without a win in League Two following draws with Dagenham and Exeter City along with losses to Cheltenham Town and Southend United. Strangely enough, Oxford have performed better away from home in their last few matches as they’ve registered wins at York City and Plymouth Argyle along with holding Cheltenham, Hartlepool and Dagenham to draws.

The U’s’ away record stands at  3-5-5  13/18 but they’ve only beaten top half opposition away from home just once so far this season, and that was the recent 2-1 win at Plymouth Argyle who have, quite simply, gone off the boil.

A trip to Stevenage will be a tough test for Oxford United despite their recent upturn in form on their travels, but Stevenage should have enough to at least not taste defeat here. I therefore recommend backing the home side with the draw no bet option – Stevenage might sneak a 1-0 win as a result.
