Sunderland registered what could be a very vital three points away at Crystal Palace on Monday night as the Black Cats edge the Eagles 1-0 at Selhurst Park to hand Sam Allardyce a second Premier League win since taking over from Dick Advocaat.
Allardyce made himself an instant hero when he guided Sunderland to a 3-0 derby win over Newcastle United recently, but can Sunderland carry this form into today’s clash with Stoke City at the Stadium of Light today, and improve upon their below-par home record which stands at 1-2-3 7/8?
This remains to be seen of course, but defeats to Norwich City, Tottenham and Southampton don’t fill me with much confidence as they’ve also managed just single points against Swansea City and West Ham.
Visitors Stoke City head into today’s fixture up on Teeside on the back of two straight wins in the Premier League as The Potters have beaten Chelsea 1-0 at home and Southampton 1-0 away to give manager Mark Hughes’s side a major boost.
Stoke now sit in a comfortable mid-table position as they’ve lost just once in their last eight in the Premier League, that being a surprising 2-0 defeat to Watford at their usually impregnable Brittania Stadium, but their away record stands at an impressive 3-3-1 6/5.
Aside from that blip in form though, Stoke have showed a lot of resilience with the recent impressive wins along with a 1-0 win away at Swansea City and taking a point at Newcastle the last time they were in this neck of the woods in a 0-0 draw.
Don’t expect too many goals in this one, but I believe Stoke have enough to at least avoid defeat at Sunderland today.
