In Nice, Sweden and Belgium face off at the Allianz Rivera in the other final Group E match of their respective campaigns with both teams needing a result to ensure their place in the last 16.
Looking at Sweden first, they started their Euro 2016 campaign with a point against Republic of Ireland in a 1-1 draw but then suffered what was an expected defeat against Italy in a 1-0 loss, but they may well fancy their chances against inconsistent Belgium who are seemingly well placed to progress from this group ahead of tonight’s encounter in Nice.
The defeat to Italy was just their second defeat from their last 12 matches overall (the other was a 2-1 loss away to Turkey in a friendly back in March), and while their enigmatic striker Ibrahimovic has been quiet so far in this tournament, I wouldn’t put it past him to explode into action tonight; but Sweden have to go for it tonight to have any chance of progression.
Onto Belgium, and you’re never quite sure what you’re going to get from Marc Wilmots’ side as they were dreadful against Italy in their opening group match 2-0 defeat, but then turned on the style against Republic of Ireland to secure a valuable three points in a 3-0 win.
Belgian striker Lukaku scored a brace against some questionable Irish defending, and he has now scored 6 goals from his last 6 matches for Belgium and looks the main danger up front for them this evening with Origi and Benteke out of the picture.
The creative midfield of Belgium which consists of the likes of Hazard and De Bruyne should again create plenty of goalscoring opportunities, and while Belgium are a nightmare to tip, I’m more confident of both teams scoring here tonight.
