Swindon Town will be looking to build upon their hard-earned point away at rivals Gillingham in midweek when they host lowly Crewe Alexandra at the County Ground this afternoon.
Swindon grabbed a point with a last minute equaliser at Priestfield Stadium thanks to a Stephen Bywater own goal in a 2-2 draw with The Gills, and they now have a home match to look forward to against a Crewe outfit who have lost all of their three League one matches so far.
It’s been a bit of a mixed start for the Robins though despite winning their opening match of the season with a 3-1 home win over Scunthorpe United. A 2-1 away win at newly promoted League Two side Luton Town in the first round of the Capital One Cup then followed.
Defeat at Crawley Town by a 0-1 scoreline was disappointing but they have a chance at adding to their points tally at the County Ground today. Creative midfielder Luongo is a force in the middle of the park along with Williams and Smith up front.
Crewe have found themselves in a bit of a mess early on this season as they’ve lost their three opening league matches with defeats at Fleetwood Town 1-2 away, and back-to-back home defeats to Barnsley 1-2 and Rochdale 2-5 during midweek.
The Railwaymen’s only success so far has been a 2-0 away win at Barnsley in the first round of the League Cup, but The Tykes exacted their revenge in the following League One clash at Gresty Road.
Crewe’s danger man up front is Canadian forward Haber, but the visitors only secured their League One safety in the final match of last season, with an overall away record of 6-5-12 28/46 with only Gillingham and Notts County conceding more goals than them on the road last term.
I’ll back Swindon to nab all three points this afternoon against a Crewe side who have started poorly this season. Swindon Town to win perhaps 2-1.
