SWINDON v OLDHAM – Pick: 1 – 16 September 2014

Robins look for back-to-back wins

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League One

Tuesday 16th September 2014 – Kickoff: 1945hrs

Swindon Town will be looking to extend their unbeaten run in League One to five matches when they host mid-table Oldham Athletic at the County Ground on Tuesday night.

Swindon are currently occupying one of the play-off places although there’s a long way of the season to go, but four matches unbeaten will give the hosts some confidence ahead of tonight – wins over Crewe Alexandra 2-0 at home and Saturday’s 2-1 win away at Bradford City will certainly give The Robins a welcome boost.

At home, Swindon’s early home form stands at  2-1-0  6/2, which includes an earlier win over struggling Scunthorpe United, and indeed, Swindon have lost just once in their last eight on home turf and that was to eventually promoted Rotherham United.

Forwards, Williams, Smith and Obika each have 2 goals apiece and there’s creativity from the highly-rated midfielder Luongo and Yaser Kasim in addition.

Onto visitors Oldham Athletic, and they shared what was probably a disappointing point with Gillingham in a 0-0 stalemate on Saturday which anchors Gary Johnson’s men in a mid-table position.

Consistency has been Oldham’s biggest enemy in recent years as they’ve failed to string together any meaning winning runs to challenge for the play-off places in this division. This has reared it’s head again in the early stages of this new season too as they’ve drawn two at home while their overall away record stands at  1-1-1  4/3 with a win at Doncaster Rovers, a draw at Colchester United with a defeat away at Preston North End in between.

Swindon, like Preston NE should be challenging for a play-off berth this season and it’ll be interesting to see how Oldham fare against tonight’s hosts who, if they take all three points tonight, could move into third place.

I’ll back Swindon then to get the job done here tonight, with perhaps a 2-1 win over The Latics.
