Despite winning just one Conference Premier match so far this season, the green shoots of recovery seem to be surfacing for AFC Telford United in recent matches as they secured a vital three points against third placed Torquay United in a 4-3 win recently.
And although they lost to Chester in the match following that in a 1-2 defeat, they did take the lead in that match. On Saturday they held 9th placed Kidderminster to a 1-1 draw at the Aggborough Stadium and they may well feel they have more than a fair chance of picking up further points this evening.
And even though they’ve won just once from their first fourteen Conference matches (which doesn’t concern me for my pick tonight), what is interesting is that they’ve scored in 11 of their 14 matches overall so far, and have scored in 6 of their 7 home matches to date, with a home record of 1-2-4 13/19.
Forest Green Rovers are on a decent run of form as they’ve lost just once in their last six with wins over Halifax Town 2-0 at home, 2-1 at Dartford and a 2-1 home win over mighty Torquay United along with points against Eastleigh and Macclesfield Town (both away from home I might add).
Forest Green are also a side very capable of scoring goals on a consistent basis, and this has been very evident in recent weeks where they’ve scored in all of their last six matches. Away from their New Lawn ground, their overall form has also been pretty solid with a record of 2-4-1 9/8 and they’ve failed to score just once in their 7 away matches to date.
In fact, Forest Green have scored in 11 of their last 12 away matches, and with the likes of Parkin, Norwood and Hughes in their front line, they are a good bet to score again at Telford tonight.
As mentioned, Telford have improved in recent matches and have scored goals consistently along with Forest Green, so my pick for tonight is perhaps a 2-1 win for the hosts, but for both teams to hit the back of the net.
