TELFORD v TORQUAY – Pick: 2 – 27 September 2014

Gulls hungry for three points over Stags

National League Tips

Football – England – Conference Premier

Saturday 27th September 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Hosts AFC Telford continue their search of a first Conference win this afternoon when they entertain second placed Torquay United at the New Bucks Head ground.

Telford have accrued just three points so far this season thanks to draws against Welling United, Southport and most recently, Barnet, which had many a punter ripping up their multi-bet ticket I daresay!

Anyway, even with just eleven matches gone of the new season, The Stags look to have their backs against the wall in an attempt to avoid relegation, such has been their poor start to the campaign as they sit rock bottom of the division.

On home ground, Telford possess a record of  0-2-3  8/14 and they’ve conceded the most number of goals at home in the Conference to date. In addition, they’ve kept just one clean sheet from their last thirteen home matches at this level, and with a visit from a Torquay outfit intent on making an instant return to the football league, further troubles could be on the cards here.

Visitors Torquay United are on a fabulous run of six consecutive wins in the Conference Premier and to be honest, they’ll be bitterly disappointed if they don’t gain their seventh here this afternoon.

The Gulls currently sit second after an excellent run of form which has seen them appear almost from nowhere following their opening day defeat away at Gateshead where they lost 1-3, that  seems a distant memory now.

Indeed, since that defeat, Torquay are unbeaten in the subsequent ten matches they’ve played which includes seven wins. Their overall away record is a solid  3-1-1  8/4 and they’ve won their last three on the trot over Lincoln City, Chester and Grimsby Town all of whom currently reside in the bottom half of the division.

If Torquay are to be taken seriously in terms of automatic promotion then they need to win here and win comfortably, so I’ll back Torquay to take all the points here in what could be a 2-0 win for the visitors.
