Blue Square Conference
Wrexham (10th) v Luton Town (3rd)
Thursday 11th November 2010 – 7.45pm
It’s another foray into the Conference on Thursday night as hosts Wrexham entertain high-flying Luton Town at their Racecourse Ground in the solitary Conference fixture midweek.
The Dragons have only lost once at home so far in this campaign, which is a vast improvement on last season’s form as they lost six on home turf. Their home record stands at 3-4-1 12/7, with veteran striker Andrew Morrell (4 goals, 2 assists) heading the goalscoring charts along with fellow ageing forward Gareth Taylor (4 goals, 2 assists) also – plenty of experience up front.
Wrexham’s only loss came against league leaders AFC Wimbledon recently.
Midfielder Dean Keates (3 goals, 3 assists) is also dangerous going forward, and the third forward likely to play is Andrew Mangan (1 goal, 3 assists) as Wrexham take an attacking approach.
Defenders Marvin Andrews and Frank Sinclair are both available again, as too is young midfielder Adrian Cieslewicz, although manager Dean Saunders will probably stick with the side that drew at Histon 1-1 on Saturday.
Tonight’s opponents, Luton Town, are positioned nicely in third spot – and so they should be, with the minimum expectation of promotion back to League Two.
The Hatters have won their last two back to back away fixtures – 1-0 over Barrow and 4-2 at Eastbourne Borough.
Their away record stands at 4-1-3 14/11, and they possess plenty of firepower going forward. Leading scorer is Matthew Barnes-Homer (9 goals, 1 assist) and he’s backed up by forward Danny Crow (6 goals, 3 assists), midfielder Andrew Drury (4 goals, 7 assists) and defender George Pilkington ( 4 goals, 1 assist).
The Verdict: Looking at the last ten meetings head-to-head, there’s never been a draw in this fixture, but Wrexham have tightened up at the back this term, and this might just frustrate Luton Town and end in a stalemate.
