The New Saints (TNS) emerged as champions of the Welsh Premier League at the end of last season, winning the first phase and then the Championship Round, to take their place in the Champions League qualifiers against Gibraltar side, Europa FC.
TNS deservedly progressed through to the Champions League qualifiers as they stormed to the Welsh domestic title by a margin of 21 points ahead of runners-up Connah’s Quay who qualified for the Europa League.
TNS finished the season with a 100% record at their Park Hall Stadium which was a great achievement, and no doubt they’ll be looking to take this record into the european competition this evening. Striker Draper (13 goals) and Seargeant (9 goals) were the stand-out attacking players for the home side.
Visitors Europa FC make the trip over from Gibraltar to participate in the Champions League qualifiers after pipping runners-up Lincoln Red Imps by a single point to win the Premier Division title at the end of last season.
It’ll be the first time in Europa’s footballing history that they’ve made it through to the qualifying stages of this elite european competition, with the usual representatives, Lincoln Red Imps, having to make do with the Europa League this time around.
Europa won 12 of their 13 away matches during their Gibraltar domestic campaign, but they’ll find tough opposition in the shape of TNS in their own back-yard this evening I fancy.
TNS have played at this level on numerous occasions, and with the added home advantage here, I’ll back them to also cover the handicap too.
