TORQUAY v CHESTER – Pick: Both teams to score – 10 March 2015

Inconsistency = goals at Plainmoor tonight

Football – England – Conference Premier

Tuesday 10th March 2015 – Kickoff: 1945hrs

For a club that were being touted as possible promotion candidates from the Conference Premier before the session began, it’s been a very unforgettable season so far for tonight’s hosts Torquay United who currently sit in a disappointing mid-table position.

Inconsistency has been Torquay’s downfall this term following relegation from League Two at the end of last season, but The Gulls have a chance to bounce back from their disastrous 1-0 defeat at home to bottom club AFC Telford on the weekend, when they entertain Chester at Plainmoor tonight.

Torquay’s overall home record stands at a reasonable  7-5-4  27/17 but they’ve managed just two home wins from their last nine on home soil which has put paid to any play-off ambitions they may have harboured. The positive thing though for my pick tonight is that they’ve been involved in both teams scoring 7 out of their last 9 home matches.

Visitors Chester have lost their last two Conference matches on the trot having been defeated by Eastleigh and Wrexham but they currently sit two league positions and three points ahead of their opponents tonight.

Prior to these back-to-back defeats, Chester had won four of their previous five matches with wins over Kidderminster, Lincoln City, Welling United and Lincoln City again, and they’ll be hoping to recapture this earlier vein of form against an inconsistent Torquay outfit tonight.

Chester’s overall away record stands at  6-2-11 25/34 but they’ve failed to score on just three occasions from their last 11 away matches to date.

Both teams have been inconsistent of late, but equally are both capable of finding the back of the net – I’ll therefore back both teams to score here in what could perhaps be a 2-1 win for Torquay United.
