Gulls to redeem themselves against Shaymen

National League Tips

Torquay United will be looking to make amends tonight for their 1-2 defeat to Barnet on Saturday as they host Halifax Town who are on the fringes of the play-off pack.

Torquay’s inconsistencies have let them down in the past few weeks as they’ve lost at Macclesfield Town and suffered the 1-2 reverse to league leaders Barnet on the weekend, but they’ve also registered a recent 2-0 home win over Eastleigh and held 7th placed Gateshead to a 2-2 draw.

The Gulls do have a pretty reasonable home record though which stands at  6-4-2  23/12 and although they’ve won just once at home in their last five, they have a chance of redeeming themselves here tonight against a poor travelling Halifax outfit.

Onto the visitors then, and Halifax go into tonight’s clash at Torquay on the back of two straight home wins over Alfreton Town and Forest Green Rovers 2-0 and 1-0 respectively.

However, we know all about Halifax and their impressive record at their Shay ground so this shouldn’t come as a surprise, but it’s their away results that are of interest to us for tonight; The Shaymen’s overall away record stands at  3-3-5  10/12 and they’ve gone four away matches without a win following defeats at Eastleigh, Grimsby Town and Welling United.

Halifax have also struggled on the road at top half opposition and still remain without a win in their six encounters against such opposition to date.

Despite Torquay’s loss at the weekend and inconsistencies creeping in for The Gulls, I’ll back the hosts to overcome these tonight in what could perhaps be a 2-1 win for them at Plainmoor but I advise giving the quarter ball just in case.
