Torquay v Shrewsbury – Pick: Both teams to score – 14 May 2011

League One/Two Tips

TORQUAY UNITED v SHREWSBURY TOWN
League Two Play Off Semi Final 1st Leg
Saturday 14th May 2011 – Kickoff 5.45pm
Torquay United host Shrewsbury Town in the first of the League Two play-offs in a later kickoff on Saturday night in what should be an attacking shoot-out between two sides who are not shy in front of goal.
Torquay just sneaked into the play-off frame courtesy of a better goal difference which was just as well as they lost their last match of the regular season at Rotherham United 1-3. The Gulls finished their season with a home record of 10-8-5 36/22, having failed to score on only 5 occasions in their 23 home matches – three of those five happened in their final three home matches when they drew 0-0 against Port Vale, Wycombe Wanderers and Chesterfield!
Leading scorer Chris Zebroski (14 goals, 6 assists) scored in their last match at Rotherham, and is assisted by fellow striker Jake Robinson (7 goals), Billy Kee (9 goals) while Kevin Nicholson (6 assists) and Eunan O’Kane (5 assists) have provided the bulk of their creativity.
Shrewsbury Town will still be smarting from their 0-5 thrashing at the hands of Torquay earlier in the season (mid March) and will be looking for revenge, and what a time to get their own back if they manage it.
Their regular league away form suggests that they have a very good opportunity to get something from this match with 11 away wins; only promoted Bury (12 away wins) possessed a better winning away record.
The Shrews’ away record stood at 11-4-8 36/31, and failed to score on seven occasions out of their 23 matches on the road. And why not? – they have numerous attacking options at their disposal with the likes of leading scorer Mark Wright (14 goals, 5 assists), Lionel Ainsworth (9 goals, 4 assists) and Matt Harrold (8 goals, 10 assists).
The Verdict: A fascinating fixture in store with both sides more than capable of scoring here, hence my selection that both will indeed score – a possible scoreline of 1-1 for those wanting a flutter on correct score.
