Tranmere Rovers were handed an unexpected defeat to Gateshead during the week as the hosts went down 1-0 at Prenton Park but I’m willing to give the home side another go here in Saturday’s early kick-off in the non-league top flight when they take on Wrexham.
Tranmere have been pretty steady on home turf overall so far this season in the National League and whilst the midweek games can throw up some interesting results, the Saturday games should provide us with more stability.
Rovers hold an overall record of 5-0-2 10/5 and the bigger picture sees them having won six of their last eight at Prenton Park at this level although they did lose to Wrexham last time these two teams met back in April.
Visitors Wrexham also lost at home during the week in a 2-1 defeat to Lincoln City who should be there or thereabouts when the play-offs/automatic promotion spots are decided, and The Dragons now face a difficult trip up to Merseyside this Saturday to take on Tranmere Rovers.
Wrexham have won just once in their last five matches overall in the National League which was a 1-0 win away at mid-table Boreham Wood, but generally their away form has been lacking this season as their away record of 2-1-4 6/14 shows.
That win at Boreham Wood ended a run of five league matches without a win on their travels, and that miserable sequence included four defeats with losses incurred at Aldershot Town, Dagenham, Woking and Macclesfield Town.
