Urawa Red Diamonds have made a strong start to their new J-League campaign having won three of their first opening four matches of the Japanese season with wins recorded against Kashiwa Reysol, Avispa Fukuoka and Shonan Bellmare.
However, they’ll be careful not to slip up to a second defeat at home early on this season as they’ve already suffered a 2-1 loss to Jubilo Iwata already at their Saitama Stadium while their early home record stands at a win and a defeat apiece amidst overall stats of 1-0-1 3/2.
Incidentally, the last three encounters between these two sides at the Saitama Stadium have all ended up in stalemates; 1-1, 0-0 and 1-1 and I daresay Friday night’s visitors Ventforet Kofu would be more than happy to take home a point away at Urawa this evening.
Onto Ventforet Kofu then, and tonight’s visitors have actually made a better start away from home than at their Yamanashi Chuo Bank Stadium so far this season as they’ve lost their first two home matches of the new campaign on home turf with defeats to Gamba Osaka and Kawasaki Frontale.
However, on the road, Ventforet have made steady progress with a win away at Vissel Kobe and a point gained in a 1-1 draw at Sagan Tosu, and their record on their travels stands at 1-1-0 3/1. It’s still early days of course and the league is still in it’s settling down phase, but Ventforet have won three of their last five on the road in the J-League.
Past encounters at Urawa show that Ventforet can hold their own against tonight’s hosts, so I’ll back both teams to score here tonight.
