In-form Valencia to continue good run

Football – Spain – La Liga

Thursday 25th September 2014 – Kickoff: 2100hrs

Valencia will go in search of a fourth consecutive win in La Liga tonight when they host second from bottom club Cordoba in Thursday night’s clash at the Estadio de Mestalla with further goals looking likely for the home side.

Following convincing wins over Malaga 3-0 and Espanyol 3-1 at home and a 3-0 win away at Getafe, Nuno Santo’s men have have jumped up into second place in the Primera Division just two points adrift of early league leaders Barcelona.

The manner of their recent wins will certainly have been pleasing for the manager and fans alike as Valencia have scored in each of their four La Liga matches to date while their last three matches have seen 3 goals scored by them.

Look out for forward Alcacer (3 goals) as a potential anytime goalscorer here, but Valencia will have to do without the services of Rodrigo who was sent off in their recent match against Getafe.

Visitors Cordoba have yet to kick-start their new campaign in the Spanish top flight as they’ve suffered two defeats and two draws which has left them with just two points to their name after four matches.

They travel to Valencia tonight still in search of their first win of the season, but they may well find it tough again on the road on the back of a 1-3 defeat at home to Sevilla which was not great preparation for a fixture against Valencia who are bouncing right now.

Their one away match so far resulted in a 0-2 loss away at Real Madrid while they could only muster draws against Celta de Vigo (1-1 at home) and a 1-1 draw away at mid-table Almeria.

Tonight’s clash will be a real test for visitors Cordoba who are still coming to grips with the step up following promotion from the Segunda Division, and they could find themselves on the back foot for long periods of tonight’s game. I expect a home win together with further goals with Valencia winning perhaps 2-1 or 3-0.
