Valencia will be looking to put the pressure back on third placed Atletico Madrid when they take on relegation-threatened Granada on Monday night.
Ahead of this weekend’s fixtures, Valencia are four points behind Atletico Madrid who have a home match against lowly Elche on Saturday night. If the form book goes according to plan, Valencia ill need to win tonight in order to keep the points deficit to four as we enter the final weeks of the Spanish season.
Last time out, Valencia lost 2-0 away at Barcelona, so they’ll no doubt be keen to return to winning ways with the visit of a beleaguered Granada outfit here. Valencia’s home record is a solid one which stands at 13-2-1 34/8 and they’ve won eight of their last nine on home turf as their winning momentum continues to build.
Visitors Granada could be forgiven for being reluctant to make the trip to Valencia on the back of a run of six La Liga matches without a win, and indeed, have won just once in their last eleven matches which was a home win over Malaga in early March.
Their form doesn’t look pretty away from home either as they’ve lost their last five matches on the trot which includes that horrific 9-1 loss at Real Madrid. That result was further compounded by a comprehensive 3-0 loss at Almeria in their last away trip, and from these last five away defeats they’ve conceded a total of 19 goals and scored just 3 in reply.
Granada’s away record stands at a disappointing 1-4-11 11/42 and it perhaps comes as no surprise that they’ve conceded the most number of goals away from home in the Spanish top flight so far this season.
Quite simply, Valencia should win this one comfortably, and so I’ll also back them to cover the asian line too as they’ve been scoring freely while Granada have been leaking at the back on their travels as well. Could be a 2-0 win for the hosts here.
