Fourth placed Varbergs take on Degerfors at the Paskbergsvallen ground on Saturday afternoon as they look to reduce the five point gap on third placed GIF Sundsvall.
Despite recent back-to-back defeats against Ljungskile 1-3 at home and 1-2 away at Husqvarna, Varbergs bounced back well with a 3-1 home win over the very same Husqvarna in their next match and will now be looking to register back-to-back wins themselves today.
Varbergs’ overall home record stands at 4-3-1 12/9 and they’ve also beaten third placed GIF Sundsvall a couple of weeks ago so they’ve proved they can mix it with the better teams in the division. Degerfors have won three of their last five in the Superettan, but two of these three wins came on their home turf with wins over Jonkopings Sodra 3-0 and Syrianska 2-0 while they recorded a 3-0 away win at second from bottom club Husqvarna.
However, on the road Degerfors have struggled in recent weeks as they’ve registered just one away win (Husqvarna) whilst suffering defeats at GIF Sundsvall 1-4, Varnamo 1-3 and a 1-3 loss at Syrianska in their last away match.
Degerfors’ overall away record stands at 2-2-4 14/20 and they’ve conceded the most number of goals away from home in the Superettan. In fact, Degerfors have kept just two clean sheets in their last fifteen away matches so they may find the going tough again at Varbergs this afternoon.
Varbergs have home advantage and have netted in all of their home matches to date while visitors Degerfors have struggled to keep a clean sheet on their travels – this looks like a home win here today for the hosts, perhaps 2-1.
