Football – Denmark – Superligaen

The Harboe Arena Slagelse ground is the venue of my next pick as hosts Vestsjaelland play their first homeatch of the new Superligaen season against visitors Odense.
Vestsjaelland suffered an opening day defeat away at Nordsjaelland 2-3 in an entertaining encounter but it was encouraging nevertheless that they managed a couple of goals on the road already through forward Festersen and an own goal from Nordsjaelland’s Runje.
Vestsjaelland finished last season in a lowly 9th position (out of a 12 club league) with an overall home record of 5-4-7 12/19. In their last meeting against tonight’s opponents Odense, the match finished in a 1-1 draw.
Visitors Odense also suffered an opening day defeat when they lost 1-2 at home to Superligaen newcomers Hobro in what was a bit of a turn up for the books.
Odense also endured a disappointing campaign in the Superligaen last season as they finished in 8th position with an overall away record of 5-5-7 22/20 but towards the end of the season, they scored in five of their last six on their travels which should give them some hope of getting something at Vestsjaelland tonight.
Interestingly, Odense failed to score and kept a clean sheet just once in both incidences in their seven matches last season away at bottom half teams which is another statistic worth noting for tonight’s match.
Incidentally, four of the last five meetings between these two sides has resulted in both teams scoring with results of 1-1, 1-0, 1-3, 1-1 and 2-3.
In addition, with both teams suffering opening day defeats they’ll no doubt both be keen to get off the mark tonight so I can see both teams hitting the back of the net in this one – could end up a 1-1 draw perhaps.
