VILLARREAL v CELTA VIGO – Pick: 1 – 08 March 2015

Football – Spain – La Liga

Sunday 8th March 2015 – Kickoff: 1900hrs

Villarreal will once again turn to their impressive home form at El Madrigal when they take on Celta Vigo in Sunday night’s clash with seven home wins on the trot under their belts.

Villarreal currently occupy sixth place and hold one of the Europa League berths going into today’s match, and had they been a bit more consistent on the road, they could well have been challenging for a Champions League qualifying chance. But as it is, their home form has been dominant in recent weeks as they’ve registered seven wins on the bounce.

The hosts’ home record stands at  9-0-3  22/9 and what is even more impressive is that six of their last seven home wins have been to nil – they’ve racked up seven clean sheets to date so far this season.

Celta Vigo have recently turned around their La Liga form having avoided defeat in their last five in the top flight which includes wins over Cordoba, Atletico Madrid and Deportivo La Coruna, along with draws against Real Sociedad and Elche.

However, this recent run of form hasn’t failed to mask their poor form on the road as they’ve recorded just one away win from their last eight matches, that being a 2-0 win at Deportivo. Their overall away record stands at  3-4-6  10/14 and they’ve lost six of their last eight (five of which were to nil).

In addition, Celta Vigo have won just once away at top half opposition this term, so this provides a further reason for backing the hosts here tonight. I expect Villarreal to take the points in what could perhaps be a 2-1 win for the hosts.
