Villarreal secured an excellent point away from home at Spanish giants Real Madrid during the week with a 1-1 draw which extended their unbeaten start in this season’s La Liga campaign to five matches overall.
Villarreal have registered wins over Malaga (2-0 away) and Real Sociedad (2-1 at home) along with draws against Granada, Sevilla and the aforementioned Real Madrid. the hosts currently sit in 8th place in the Spanish top flight but a win here this evening could see them jump up into the top five of the division.
Looking at the bigger picture, Villarreal have suffered just two defeats from their last 16 matches at their Camp El Madrigal and I daresay they’ll be eyeing off all three points with the visit of rock-bottom club Osasuna here today.
Onto Osasuna then, and the visitors sit bottom of La Liga along with Granada with just two points to their respective names, and Osasuna have earned their points with a draw at home (against Celta Vigo) and away from home (at Malaga).
However, it’s now five matches without success for Osasuna this season who secured promotion from the Segunda Division via the play-offs at the end of last term, and it looks like they’re finding life difficult in the top flight this season.
It’s been a couple of seasons since Osasuna were in La Liga but their away form in their previous campaign at this level saw them win just three away matches from their last 17 on their travels which also included a 3-1 defeat at tonight’s opponents Villarreal.
