Walsall to at least avoid defeat

WALSALL v BURY

Football – England – League One Betting Tips

Walsall currently sit top of League One thanks to last weekend’s resounding 4-0 win away at beleaguered Blackpool and they now look forward to hosting another Lancashire club in the shape of Bury at their Banks’s Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Walsall have come out of the blocks in quick fashion this season as they’ve won four of their first five League One matches of the new term with wins over Southend United, Rochdale, Coventry City and Blackpool.

What is even more impressive is that three of these four victories were achieved away from home, while they’ve also gained a point in a 1-1 draw against Oldham Athletic earlier on home turf. The Saddlers’ home record stands at  1-1-0  3/2 in these early stages but they’ll be looking to at least avoid defeat here to keep their unbeaten start intact.

Visitors Bury currently dwell in the bottom half of the division as they still go in search of their first league win of the season having drawn four and lost one of their first five League One matches. Bury did however register a 2-1 win away at Accrington Stanley in their midweek Johnstones Paint Trophy game, but they face tougher opposition this afternoon.

Bury have drawn both of their away matches so far against Doncaster Rovers and Crewe Alexandra in 1-1 and 3-3 draws, but historically, The Shakers have struggled on the road at this level as they’ve failed to win in their last seven away matches, and indeed have recorded just one away win from their last 15 on their travels in League One.

With this last statistic in mind, I’m leaning towards the hosts in this one but as Bury have drawn four of their first five matches, I’ll take Walsall with the round ball at reasonable odds. Walsall could take this perhaps 2-1.
