Hornets to keep Wolves from their door

Championship Tips

Football – England – Championship

Friday 26th December 2014 – Kickoff: 1730hrs

Watford registered a third Championship win on the trot on Saturday when they beat out-of-sorts Reading 1-0 at the Madejski Stadium which has maintained their hopes for a play-off place.

Watford seem to have recovered from a recent dramatic dip in form which saw The Hornets suffer a four-match losing streak during the month of November, but they’ve bounced back since with wins over Fulham 5-0 at Craven Cottage and a 2-1 home win over Wigan Athletic as well as the Reading win.

At their Vicarage Road ground, Watford hold an overall record of  6-3-2  23/13 and despite some mixed results of late with defeats to Derby County and Cardiff City, The Hornets have also recorded wins against Brentford, as well as holding Bournemouth to a point.

Forwards Vydra, Deeney and Forestieri along with midfielder Abdi look the most likely anytime goalscorers for the hosts.

Onto Wolves now, and after a very promising start to their return to the Championship, the wheels appear to have fallen off for the midlanders as they’ve racked up just three league wins from their last fourteen matches (and they’ve earned just 14 points from the last 42 on offer as a result).

Wolves have really struggled to keep pace with the top teams in the division and this has been reflected in their results against Ipswich Town (lost 2-1 away), Derby County (lost 5-0 away), Brentford (lost 4-0 away) and Bournemouth (lost 2-1 at home) – their away record stands at  3-4-4  12/20.

Wolves have failed to score on four occasions whilst keeping three clean sheets but they’ve yet to beat a top half team on the road so far this season.

Watford’s regained form along with their Vicarage Road advantage should keep them out of trouble this afternoon against a Wolves outfit who have struggled against the top sides. It’s time now for Watford to stand up here, and I’ll give the quarter ball on the hosts in case it ends a draw. Watford could take this 2-1.
