My next pick features two sides that usually find themselves in the bottom half of the Premier League and fighting a relegation battle near the foot of the league table, but today’s hosts West Brom are enjoying a pretty successful campaign so far this season.
West Brom have recently suffered defeats against Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham, but these were games that they never expected to win, with even a draw against such opposition would have been considered a massive bonus; but wins over Southampton and Hull City were much more realistic and The Baggies duly obliged.
West Brom have tightened up a lot this term at The Hawthorns and this is reflected by their home record which stands at 5-2-3 19/14 along with having racked up four wins from their last five on home turf with wins over Burnley, Watford, Swansea City and Hull City.
Sunderland scored what was a rare Premier League win back in mid-December when they registered a valuable three points with a 1-0 win over Watford, but manager David Moyes and his Black Cats side have been unable to replicate that success since, falling to defeats to Manchester United, Burnley and Stoke City.
Sunderland sit second from bottom in the English top flight and are one point behind Crystal Palace ahead of this weekend’s round of matches; but an away record of 1-1-8 6/20 means they’ll probably struggle to keep up with a fairly solid West Brom outfit at The Hawthorns today.
Sunderland have also lost their last four matches on the trot away from home, conceding a total of 12 goals and scoring just 2 in reply – home win here I fancy.
