WEST HAM v QPR – Pick: 1 – 05 October 2014

Hammers to edge London clash

Premier League Tips

Football – England – Premier League

Sunday 5th October 2014 – Kickoff: 1715hrs

Next up is a London clash between hosts West Ham and QPR at the Boleyn Ground on Sunday evening with both teams no doubt keen to pull away from the wrong end of the Premier League.

West Ham have produced some mixed results of late with a good 3-1 win away at Crystal Palace which was followed by the fantastic 3-1 home win over Liverpool and a point away at Hull City – however, these results were mixed with a defeat to Southampton, and an away loss at Manchester United at Old Trafford last time out.

Today though, they have a great opportunity to add to their points tally despite the near locality of their rivals QPR, and if they win today, West Ham will have registered back-to-back home wins for the first time since February when they beat Norwich City and Southampton.

The attacking duo of Valencia and Sakho seems to be forming an effective partnership up front with Downing and Noble providing the ammunition. On the bench they have the likes of Zarate, Carlton Cole and Vaz Te to call upon for inspiration.

Visitors QPR have recorded just one Premiership win so far in their return to the top flight, and that was a narrow 1-0 home win over Sunderland at Loftus Road (Sunderland have yet to win away from home this season), while recent results have been less encouraging with a heavy 0-4 defeat at Old Trafford and last weekend’s defeat away at Southampton.

In between these defeats, The R’s held Stoke City to a 2-2 draw at Loftus Road but Harry Redknapp’s men need to start racking up three-point tallies on home turf before they start falling too far behind the teams around them.

As it stands, QPR are bottom of the Premier League along with Burnley and Newcastle United (all of whom are on four points each), but with an away record so far of  0-0-3  1/10, I feel QPR will do well to get a point at West Ham today.

The hosts have a great chance of claiming all three points here, and with the Valencia/Sakho partnership starting to flourish along with depth off the bench, I’ll back West Ham for perhaps a 2-1 win here this evening to condemn Harry’s men to a fourth consecutive away defeat.
