WIGAN v MIDDLESBROUGH – Pick: 2 AH0 – 22 November 2014

Boro to stay close to Latics

Championship Tips

Football – England – Championship

Saturday 22nd November 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Former Wigan Athletic manager Uwe Rosler recently paid the price for a run of five home matches without a win as he was sacked, with his replacement being former Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay who has been at the centre of controversial racial texts.

Wigan, who have dropped rather alarmingly into the bottom three of the Championship, were seemingly left with no choice but to replace Uwe Rosler on the back of just one league win from their last twelve matches which was a surprise 2-1 win at Derby County.

But it was a case of too little too late for The Latics who now occupy 22nd place and level on points with Birmingham City. Wigan have lost their last two matches on the trot with defeats away at relegation rivals Brighton and Bolton Wanderers, and whilst they’ve lost just once at the DW Stadium, it’s now five matches without a home win (four of those ending up in draws!)

Middlesbrough head into this clash with Wigan on the back of a run of solid form which has seen Boro lose just once in their last twelve matches in the Championship. That defeat came away at 9th placed Wolves who have lost just once at Molineux all season, while Boro have racked up recent wins over Rotherham United and Norwich City which has helped lift the Teesiders into third place.

Meanwhile on their travels, Middlesbrough a pretty good record of  5-1-2  10/6 with wins at Bolton Wanderers, Huddersfield Town, Cardiff City, Brighton and Rotherham, and they’ve actually lost just three away matches in their last fourteen on the road which is an impressive record in one of the most competitive leagues in the world.

I know it’s risky to back against a side that have just installed a new manager, but I believe Middlesbrough are good enough to get at least a point here this afternoon against a side who seem to have lost all confidence – take the visitors with the well-priced round ball here in what could be a narrow 1-0 win for Boro.
