WIGAN v MILLWALL – Pick: 1 AH-1 – 08 April 2014

Latics to deal with Lions at the DW

Championship Tips

Football – England – Championship

Tuesday 8th April 2014 – Kickoff:  1945hrs

Fifth placed Wigan Athletic will be looking to leapfrog both Derby County and QPR when they host relegation strugglers Millwall at the DW Stadium on Tuesday night.

In Saturday’s early kick-off, Wigan disposed of Leeds United 1-0 which extended their unbeaten home run to eleven matches, and The Latics now seem to have the whip-hand over their play-off rivals with momentum building in their home matches, along with a solid defensive foundation, they could well emerge as the favourites to go up via the play-offs.

Wigan’s overall home record now stands at  11-7-2  32/20 and as mentioned, they are unbeaten in their last eleven which includes notable wins over Watford and Leeds United along with holding promoted Leicester City to a 2-2 draw during last week. They also hold a solid  6-4-0  18/11 record over bottom half opposition at the DW Stadium which bodes well for tonight’s pick.

Visitors Millwall could be forgiven for feeling a little deflated after their 2-1 away win at Nottingham Forest on the weekend as they’d have learned afterwards that relegation rivals Barnsley and Yeovil Town both picked up points also (Barnsley 0-0 at home to Brighton and Yeovil Town winning 2-1 at Blackpool). As a result, Millwall still find themselves in the bottom three of the Championship which would have been a frustration for all concerned despite that great win.

We mustn’t forget however, that Millwall’s recent form has been poor overall having registered just one league win in the thirteen matches prior to the trip to the City Ground, with an overall away record of  3-5-12  16/39, they have also conceded the most number of away goals in the Championship.

In addition, The Lions have kept just three clean sheets on their travels so far and with Jordi Gomez expected to pull the strings in midfield once again for The Latics this evening, I’ll back the hosts to not only gain all three points but also cover the -1 handicap as well. Could be a 2-0 win for Wigan here.

Pick:  Wigan Athletic AH-1 @ 2.02 Pinnacle
