Wigan’s miserable season in the Championship continued on the weekend when they went down to a disappointing 1-0 defeat at home to Sheffield Wednesday which left The Latics second from bottom in the English second tier.
However, Wigan do have a couple of games in hand over relegation rivals Burton Albion who sit fourth from bottom in the division, and all three points on Tuesday night against Norwich City would reduce the points deficit to just three – if they manage to win this encounter!
Inconsistent results throughout this campaign could cost Wigan the ultimate price of relegation down to League One, but recent wins against Burton Albion and Brentford have given the home side hope here ahead of this evening’s important clash.
Visitors Norwich City have staged something of a revival in recent weeks as The Canaries have kick-started their bid for a play-off place having registered four wins from their last five matches in the Championship with victories over Derby County, Wolves, Birmingham City and Cardiff City.
However, it should be noted that three of these four wins were at their Carrow Road ground while their form away from home continues to baffle manager Alex Neil as his side possess a record of 4-3-8 19/28 on their travels so far.
With just one away win from their last nine on the road, Norwich are far from guaranteed from getting something at the DW Stadium this evening, and they may be happy with a point here given their recent poor record on the road.
