WOLFSBURG v EINTRACHT BRAUNSCHWEIG

Thursday 25th May 2017 – Kickoff: 1930hrs

Football – Germany – Bundesliga Betting Tips

The German domestic season now reaches the finale in both the Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga with the season now reaching the dreaded play-off phase, and my first pick features Bundesliga side Wolfsberg taking on Bundesliga second tier side Eintracht Braunschweig in the first of two legs.

Wolfsburg experienced a disappointing campaign in the German top flight this season, and ultimately found themselves third from bottom in the division, losing out to fellow relegation candidates Mainz by an inferior goal difference.

Mixed results dogged Wolfsburg throughout their campaign, which are reflected by their home record that finished up on  5-3-9  15/25, but their one saving grace could be the current form of their leading goalscorer, Mario Gomez, who has scored a total of 16 goals to date, 8 of which have been scored in his last 10 appearances in all competitions.

Visitors Eintracht Braunschweig suffered the heartbreak of narrowly missing out on one of the automatic promotion spots from the 2.Bundesliga at the end of the regular season, despite registering a 2-1 home win over Karlsruher. Second placed Hannover pipped them for promotion thanks to avoiding defeat in their last day 1-1 draw at Sandhausen, so Braunschweig now have to take their chances over two legs with Wolfsburg.

Braunschweig’s successful campaign was largely built upon a solid home record which saw them lose just once throughout the regular season at their Eintracht-Stadion, however their away performances have not been so convincing.

The visitors ended up with an away record of  6-6-5  15/19 and their recent results have been mixed as well with a win recorded at 1860 Munchen, but defeats at Hannover 1-0 and a damaging 6-0 loss at Arminia Bielefeld effectively ended their automatic promotion hopes.

I believe Wolfsburg have the edge here, not only with home advantage, but with an in-form Gomez scoring goals.
