Football – England – Blue Square Premier

Tuesday 5th March 2013 – Kickoff:  1945hrs

Blue Square Premier leaders Wrexham take on second from bottom club Ebbsfleet United at the Racecourse ground on Tuesday night looking to extend their unbeaten record to thirteen matches and open up a points lead on second placed Kidderminster.

With Welsh counterparts Swansea City having a successful season in the Premier League and Cardiff City on course for promotion to join them from the Championship, Wrexham will no doubt be keen to complete the Welsh ‘revolution’ by getting promoted back up to the football league and League Two football.

But first, they must complete the job in hand and see off the fierce competition from the likes of Kidderminster, Mansfield Town, Newport County and Grimsby Town as it’s still anyone’s guess as to who will eventually get promoted from this very difficult league.

All the more reason then for Wrexham to go for all-out attack against lowly Ebbsfleet as goal difference may well come into play come May and The Dragons’ goal threats are not in short supply with an average of over 2 goals per game at home with an overall home record of  8-6-2  36/19. Looking a little deeper into their home results so far, and in particular, against the lower half teams in the division, Wrexham have been involved in 8 out of 10 matches that have resulted in a total of 3 goals or more which looks a promising statistic for the purpose of my selection for this fixture.

Visitors Ebbsfleet United have lost their last two away matches back-to-back at Grimsby Town and Kidderminster respectively, but what is interesting is that the results were 1-3 and 2-3 which proves they are more than capable of scoring goals against top six opposition.

Ebbsfleet’s away record stands at a disappointing  3-2-10  20/35 and they are fighting for their BSP lives. Unfortunately for them, they’ve lost their last five away matches on the trot, with four of the five matches resulting in a total of 4 goals or more with losses against Mansfield Town 1-4, Dartford 1-3, Woking 0-1, Grimsby Town 1-3 and Kidderminster 2-3.

With just one clean sheet under their belts on their travels, they look likely to concede again at Wrexham, while they’ve failed to score away from home just three times so they may well contribute to the total goal tally here tonight.

Incidentally, 7 of Ebbsfleet’s 9 away matches at top half opposition have ended in a total of 3 goals or more which also makes me confident of seeing more goals at the Racecourse on Tuesday night.

Wrexham will definitely be keen to rack up some goals over tonight’s opposition to keep Kidderminster and the rest at bay, and I’m backing goals galore tonight! Could be a 3-1 win for Wrexham.
