WYCOMBE v CAMBRIDGE – Pick: 1 – 27 September 2014

Wycombe too strong for U's

League One/Two Tips

WYCOMBE WANDERERS v CAMBRIDGE UNITED

Football – England – League Two

Saturday 27th September 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Wycombe Wanderers will be looking to build upon their useful point away at Fratton Park last weekend when they drew with Portsmouth, into today’s match and extend their unbeaten run to an impressive seven matches.

Gareth Ainsworth’s lads have started strongly this season and are currently occupying one of the automatic promotion spots in third place just two points behind League Two leaders Bury. But with Bury having to make the long trip down to Exeter City and second placed Burton playing Cheltenham Town this Saturday, Wycombe may sense an opportunity to go top of the league with a win today.

Wycombe have lost just once so far this term while at home their overall record stands at  2-1-1 5/4 with a defeat to Tranmere Rovers but wins over Carlisle United and Mansfield Town along with holding Bury to a point in a 0-0 draw.

Striker Hayes and defender Murphy have both scored 4 goals apiece so far this season.

Visitors Cambridge United have recently suffered back-to-back defeats against Exeter City 1-2 at home and last weekend’s home defeat to Luton Town who performed a bit of a ‘smash-and-grab’ win at the Abbey Stadium in a 1-0 win.

Cambridge have returned a real mixed pot of results lately, and in fact, the season so far and you never quite know just yet what you’re going to get from The U’s from week to week.

Their overall away record reads  1-2-1  7/7 with a win at Dagenham & Redbridge 3-2, two draws against York City and Newport County and a defeat at Portsmouth. I sense that Cambridge may be one or two seasons away from making a serious challenge for the play-offs, and their current league position of mid-table is a fair reflection of where they’re at right now.

While Cambridge United are feeling their way around League Two again after nine seasons out of the mix, I’m backing Wycombe to kick on this season, and with home advantage here, they could take the points with perhaps a 2-1 win.

Pick: Wycombe Wanderers straight win @ 2.10 Coral
