Next up is a bottom of the table clash between tonight’s hosts Yokohama Marinos and Shimizu S-Pulse at the Nissan Stadium with both teams looking to pull away from the wrong end of the division.
Following two away matches on the trot where they drew 2-2 with Gamba Osaka and lost last time out 2-0 at Sanfrecce Hiroshima, Yokohama will be keen to return to more familiar surroundings as they go in search of their first win of the new phase.

Onto Shimizu S-Pulse then, and they are currently level on points with Yokohama Marinos having gained just two points so far this term. S-Pulse are still without a win as they’ve drawn two (0-0 versus Kashima Antlers and 2-2 versus Nagoya Grampus), while suffering defeats to Vissel Kobe in a heavy 5-0 home defeat and a 3-2 loss at Kawasaki Frontale.
On the road, S-Pulse’s record stands at 0-1-1 2/3 as they’ve drawn at Kashima Antlers and lost at Kawasaki Frontale, and overall their record on their travels has been a poor one as they’re without a win from their last five on the road which includes four defeats.
All in all, Yokohama Marinos look the likelier of these two teams to emerge with all three points so I’ll indeed back them for perhaps a 2-1 win to kick-start their season.
