Andy Murray v Stanislav Warwinka US Open Tennis Betting
September 5th, 2010 / Lee A Jackson
US Open 3rd Round Tennis Betting: Andy Murray continues his quest for the first Tennis Grand Slam title of the year on Sunday, as he takes on Stanislas Warwinka in the third round of the US Open. Murray has cruised through his two matches so far, with the most entertaining coming in the second round where he played Dustin Brown. The tall, powerful and unorthodox Brown (who doesn’t crouch down for receiving serves) fired two monstrous serves off at the start of the match, both of which Andy Murray challenged. Murray got the first one wrong but the second one right, and there was an almost comical entertainment about the early stages of the match as Murray tries to find his feet and get to grips with the sheer power that Brown was firing his way. Once Murray had gotten settled and was understanding the speed of Brown, he was always in a commanding position. Murray was pushed hard in the first set, which he took, and then the challenge of Brown started to fade away as the match went on. Murray’s class clearly won out on the day, and he will have been pleased to get through the second round match without too much difficulty and without it having dragged on for too long. The last thing Murray wants in the heat of Flushing Meadows in New York, is to play unnecessary sets on his way to victory. So the quicker he gets things done in these early rounds, the better poised he will be as the tournament wears on.
Now Swiss native Stanislas Warwinka (seeded 25th for the US Open) stands in his way in the third round of the 2010 US Open and naturally tennis betting will be favouring the Scot to progress. The two players have met eight times before on the ATP Tour, with Murray holding a 5-3 advantage in the head to head record. In fact, Murray has won the last three meeting between them, most recently at Wimbledon last year in the last sixteen. Prior to that, Murray won both of their meetings in 2008, including a victory at the US Open, as he continued to climb towards the top of the world rankings. Murray hold as 32/12 match record this year, compared to Warwinka who holds a 26/13 match record. Both men have won one title this year, but the Swiss player is ranked down in 27th which sends a much bigger picture. It will undoubtedly be Murray’s toughest game of the US Open so far, but on paper it really should not be anything which he can’t handle. Since ditching his coach, Murray has come into good form for the US Open. Murray won the Olympus US Open Series ahead of the US Open itself, earning him a cool one million dollar prize bonus. Now he goes for the biggest monetary prize in tennis, but of course, that is secondary only to his ambitions of winning a grand slam.
So Murray is on course and everything really should go as planned and so should your US Open tennis betting on Andy Murray. He will be playing mid afternoon, which is not ideal compared to evening matches, but tennis betting is completely behind him for this one. What does the draw hold now for him? If Andy Murray gets through this US Open third round challenge, then he will play the winner of the tricky Sam Querrey or 14th seed Nicolas Almagro. Truth be told there is no reason why he should not find himself in the semi finals at the US Open this year. The path is there and laid out for him, with 12th seed Mikhail Youzhny the highest seeded player left in his quarter of the draw. Yes there is the probability that he will face Rafael Nadal in the semi finals, but that is down the line and really is a mouth watering prospect for US Open betting. Nadal overcame Istomin in his second round match, after saving a 5-1 deficit in the second set tie break. Nadal of course, the world number one, will be the biggest challenge to Andy Murray in the first half of the draw, with Roger Federer holding his own in the second half of the tournament and the expected finalist to come from there.
