ATP Dubai Duty Free Tennis Betting Favourite
All favouritism will go towards the world number one Novak Djokovic of course for this one, as he has been a title winner here before and has already gotten the Australian Open title under his belt for the season. Three times Djokovic has gotten his hands on this title, winning it straight from 2009 through 2011. He was stopped last year by Andy Murray in the semi finals, but is overwhelming favourite to go on and recapture it this season. This will be the first tournament outing for him since his win at Melbourne Park and the draw will be easy enough until the semi final stage. If he doesn’t cruise through to the last four, then something strange will be up. Likely semi final opponent would be the in form Juan Martin del Potro, then possibly Federer in the final. Would back Djokovic all the way against both of them in Dubai. Djokovic is 8/11 favourite at online bookmaker Paddy Power.
Roger Federer has even more history at this tournament than even Novak Djokovic does. Federer has claimed the Dubai title five times before in his career, and goes into the latest edition as defending champion. Federer cruised past Andy Murray in last year’s final and does go in the opposite half of the draw to Djokovic. Federer lost in the semi finals of the Australian Open to Andy Murray and then suffered a shock defeat in Rotterdam as he lost in the quarter finals to Julien Benneteau, a match you don’t expect Federer to be losing. That has raised some questions about his ability to land titles this year. Still trading strong, but don’t see him getting the better of Djokovic should they clash in the final.
So Juan Martin del Potro, the potential semi finalist against Djokovic may have a better shot. The big serving Argentine is going to be the best option behind the big two, and already has a title under his belt in 2012. He won in Rotterdam, where Federer blew out, and will take confidence into Dubai. He hit the semi finals here last season in his debut at the tournament where he lost to Federer. Always going to be the big dangerous floater in ATP draws behind any of the big four. If he was down in Federer’s half, he would have made an even stronger bet.
Best Outside Bet
Not too much in the way of outsiders this week. Tomas Berdych perhaps, he hasn’t been in bad form at the start of the season, or Jo Wilfried Tsonga, who gave Federer a battle at the Australian Open. Perhaps it should be Janko Tipsarevic though, who won in Chennai at the start of the year. He hit the last sixteen at the Australian Open too. Should be rested enough as he has been on the sidelines for almost three weeks since an early exit in Montpellier. Tipsarevic is a long 50/1 at online bookmaker Paddy Power, but in Federer’s quarter, so could produce a surprise run.
