Brazil v Paraguay Copa America Betting Odds & Preview

July 17th, 2011 / Lee A Jackson
Football Betting

Well, because of the slightly odd organisation of the Copa America, Brazil v Paraguay betting is a repeat of one of the matches from Group B, which ended in a 2-2 draw. The defending Copa America champions Brazil, have not produced their best as of  yet. Just like host nation Argentina. After being held to draws against Venezuela and Paraguay, Brazil captain Lucio demanded more from his country men. There really has been two sides to Brazil in the 2011 Copa America so far. There has been the side which has been fantastic to watch, stroking the ball around, creating space, looking comfortable on the ball in their indomitable style, and then there has been the Brazil which has simply failed to turn all of their possession and style into many clear cut chances. They have been guilty of over doing it with the ball, and certainly do not look as ruthless and cut throat as you would want them to be. The forwards, especially Chelsea target Neymar, looks a bit raw, but we did see a much better Brazil in their last group match, when Neymar and Pato both scored a brace in a 4-2 win over Ecuador. Worrying, for Brazil, is that their defence has not been as water tight as they would like it to be, and with stiffer challenges to come, it will be interesting to see how they stand up. Brazil have been able to get away with defensive lapses before, because of their firepower up front, but if that is not working up front, then they look quite vulnerable at times. These are things to consider for your Brazil v Paraguay betting. Still, they are the best side for possession in the Copa America and it just that lack of conviction in going for the jugular which is troubling them. To their credit, Brazil did keep on attacking against Ecuador after being 1-1 at half time so they are trying to get the right balance. There is still a transitional feel about Brazil at the moment, but the relief of cutting loose a little bit in the final group match, could be the breath of fresh air which they need to push on. They may be afforded a good chance to build further momentum with their quarter final clash against Paraguay, which they will be happy about. Paraguay on their part, have played very well in the tournament, despite finishing the group with three draws. They had Brazil on the ropes in their group match, until Fred popped up with an 89th minute equaliser for the Brazilians. Paraguay also had Venezuela on the ropes, leading 3-1 until the final two minutes in which they blew it and ended up drawing 3-3. Paraguay have not been afraid to attack in the 2011 Copa America, and they have pretty much played without reservation. This is pretty much the same squad which they had at the 2010 FIFA World Cup. They have probably been forced into that, because their back line, and defensive midfield area hasn’t been very good, and so they have needed their forward conviction. With Brazil not looking the sharpest at the back either, there is a high potential for plenty of goals in Brazil v Paraguay Copa America quarter final betting. Paraguay will be confident after their efforts against the Brazilians in the group match, but would still lean towards Brazil growing more and more in confidence and fluency the more the tournament goes on.
