Brazil v Uruguay Betting Odds, Preview and Predictions – Confederations Cup

South Americans meet in semi finals

Brazil v Uruguay Betting Preview
A great South American clash in the semi final, as the two neighbouring countries duke it for a place in the final. The Brazilians have been delighting their home crowds and will now firmly fancy their chances of clashing with Spain (potentially) in the final itself. They will start as strong favourites against Uruguay, who still are looking like a side who are trying to gain their identity again. But after winning two of three in their group, their own confidence may slowly be growing.

Brazil v Uruguay Recommended Bet:
A clash of the South Americans, and Brazil are overwhelming favourites. They took three wins from three in their group and look to be trundling along nicely. After fairly routine wins to open with, they faced Italy in their final group match. They were given a run for their money there from a spirited Italian display, who were also missing Andrea Pirlo in the middle of the park. Italy were able to find gaps in the Brazilian game and exploit them. So that may be a worry down the line for coach Luiz Felipe Scolari, but what is going to carry them far is their forward power. When Brazil flood forward, there is hardly any need for defence, because they do look very good, with Barcelona-bound Neymar leading the way in everything they do. Brazil do look as if they could be even better if they could find replacements for Hulk and Fred up front alongside Neymar.

So the forward talent is definitely there, but they still don’t look very composed through the middle of the park when being pressed back. Italy did very well in pressing Brazil and making them give the ball away. So after seeing off Italy, Mexico and Japan, averaging three goals per game and having conceded just two, Brazil do have some momentum going and they have the advantage of the crowd fully behind them. Uruguay meanwhile go their tournament off to a slow start in losing to Spain. A scrappy and narrow 2-1 win over the inexperienced Nigeria kept their hopes of qualification alive and with an 8-0 thumping over minnows Tahiti in their final Group B match, coach Oscar Tabarez at least fulfilled the goal of reaching the knockout stage, albeit drawing the short straw now of having to face Brazil. But this is a challenge that the savvy Uruguay, who know all about tournament football, may be relishing.

It was an under strength side that Tabarez sent out to face Tahiti of course, saving his best for the semi final challenge of Brazil. Uruguay have a tremendous forward line, at least on paper, with Luis Suarez, Edinson Cavani and the wise head of Diego Forlan. However, Cavani has looked very shy of the player that has been linked with big money moves to Chelsea and Real Madrid, being very wasteful of chances and looking disinterested. La Celeste will need him to step up against Brazil if Urugauy are going to find a way through. Uruguay have been a bit disjointed for a while now and there are no guarantees that they will be back in Brazil next summer for the World Cup. The amount of confidence that the 2011 Copa America title winners could take from beating Brazil here could be huge in helping them find their balance.

However, Brazil are favourites, even though this should be a tough derby game. Given his exploits so far, could be worth running with Neymar as First Goalscorer for a price of 3/1 with online bookmaker Betfred (with their Double Delight/Hattrick heaven promotion in place too).

In the Brazil v Uruguay head to head there have been seventy previous clashes between the two. Brazil hold the head to head lead by 32-19. In those seventy matches, Brazil have netted 125 goals to 90 from Uruguay. This will be the first time they have met in the Confederations Cup. Their last coming together was in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers, with Brazil winning 4-0 in Montevideo, following up a 2-1 win in Sao Paulo over their neighbours. In actual competitive tournament matches (World Cup and Copa America), everything is level at ten wins apiece and eight draws.
