Coca Cola Championship Injuries/Suspensions Team News – 17 October 2009
Scunthorpe United v Sheffield United
Scunthorpe striker Ben May is out for a further 6 weeks after injuring his ankle a second time.
Defenders Rob Jones(1asst) and David Mirfin are expected to return to the squad following injuries.
Sheffield Utd have an injury crisis ahead of their trip to Scunthorpe with no less than 10 of their first team squad carrying knocks; Ched Evans(2gls,2assts),James Harper(1gl,1asst),Chris Morgan(1gl,1asst),Darius Henderson(3gls),Jamie Ward(4gls,1asst),Lee Williamson,Gary Naysmith,Derek Geary and Richard Cresswell(1gl) are all struggling.
Blackpool v Plymouth Argyle
Blackpool winger Ishmel Demontagnac will be available for the game against Plymouth despite being handed a 3 match suspension following his sending off in a reserve game midweek.
Plymouth’s loan defender James Chester has returned to Manchester Utd following a cartilage injury, and Argyle are now left with only Krizstian Timar(1gl) as their only recognised centre-back. Chris Barker,Rede Johnson and Kari Arnason are all out injured, while Marcel Seip has joined Blackpool on loan.
Bristol City v Peterborough United
City midfielder Brian Wilson is out for a couple of months with a shin injury and won’t be available for the visit of Peterborough.
City will assess the fitness of striker Alvaro Saborio(1gl,1asst) and defender Lewin Nyatanga,but Liam Fontaine and Christian Ribeiro are definitely out.
Peterborough midfielder Tom Williams(4assts) is a major doubt, and Paul Coutts is ruled out.
However, defender Craig Morgan is expected to start, with striker George Boyd(3gls,3assts) equalling the highest number of appearances for Posh.
Cardiff City v Crystal Palace
Cardiff midfielder Stephen McPhail(3assts) is out for the Palace game as he recovers from an operation removing a lump from his jaw-line.
However, striker Ross McCormack and full-back Kevin McNaughton are expected to return to the squad following injuries.
Midfielder Joe Ledley(1asst) should also be fit to play.
Palace hope to welcome back forwards Stern John & Freddie Sears, along with defender Claude Davis.
Defender Jose Fonte should also start, but Victor Moses(1asst) is doubtful.
Doncaster Rovers v Barnsley
Doncaster will add new loan signing Simon Gillett (from Southampton) to their squad for their South Yorkshire derby against Barnsley.
Just as well as Rovers will be without 9 of their regulars including; Brian Stock, Adam Lockwood,James Coppinger and Steve Brooker. John Oster(1asst) & Quinton Fortune(1gl) sit out the last of their suspensions.
Barnsley have an almost full strength side to pick from with only Bobby Hassell the absentee as the Tykes seek a third successive win under new manager Mark Robins.
Ipswich Town v Swansea City
Rock-bottom Ipswich Town take on Swansea City still looking for their first win of the season.
They are boosted by the expected return of defender & skipper Alex Bruce(1gl). They have also signed Portsmouth keeper Asmir Begovic on a 3 month loan deal as he bids to gain a first team place.
Swansea striker Kerry Morgan has joined Newport County on a 3 month loan so won’t figure in this one.
Midfielder Ferrie Bodde is also out.
Leicester City v Derby County
Leicester manager Nigel Pearson can choose an unchanged team for their East Midlands derby with Derby County.
Only Aleksander Tunchev is absent recovering from a knee operation.
Derby will be without defender Shaun Barker(1gl) for the trip to Filbert St, and are nervously awaiting the fitness of fellow defender Dean Leacock as a replacement.
However, Leicester loanee Paul Dickov(1asst) cannot play against his parent club.
Winger Kris Commons(1gl) could feature, but James Vaughan,Steve Davies(1asst),Chris Porter,Miles Addison(2gls),Giles Barnes,Paul Green(1gl) and Stephen Pearson(1asst) are all sidelined.
Middlesbrough v Watford
Boro’s Rhys Williams(1asst) is a doubt ahead of their clash with Watford.
Defender Sean St.Ledger(1asst) should be fit to play,but Caleb Folan,Chris Riggott,Andrew Taylor & Matthew Bates are all out.
Watford will assess the fitness of Heidar Helguson(2gls), but skipper Jay De Merit is still sidelined with an eye infection.
Midfielder Scott Severin may return after a groin injury.
QPR v Preston North End
Rangers will be missing Martin Rowlands and Ben Watson(2gls,1asst) when they take on Preston at home.
Defender Fitz Hall and Gareth Ainsworth may earn recalls following returns to fitness.
However, Hogan Ephraim,Matthew Connolly and Angelo Balanta are all missing.
Preston travel with Callum Davidson(1gl) and Paul Parry(1gl) having to pass late fitness tests.
Midfielder Barry Nicholson remains out with a broken leg.
Sheffield Wednesday v Coventry City
Wednesday striker Luke Varney(2gls,1asst) could earn a recall, along with Francis Jeffers & Akpo Sodje after impressing in te reserves midweek.
Otherwise The Owls look set to remain unchanged.
Coventry’s ex Nottm Forest midfielder Sammy Clingan(3gls,1asst) has been ruled out,along with defender Marcus Hall(1asst).
David Bell & Ben Turner will also have to sit it out again.
West Brom v Reading
West Brom’s England keeper Scott Carson is fighting to be fit for Reading’s visit to The Hawthorns.
Baggies striker Luke Moore(2gls) and Graham Dorrans(5assts) may make surprise returns following lay-offs.
Jerome Thomas(1gl) also returns from suspension to give manager Roberto Di Matteo a timely boost, but Chris Brunt(4gls) has been ruled out.
The Royals strikers Grzegorz Rasiak(1gl) and Noel Hunt(2gls) should be fit,but the match may come too soon for Shane Long.
Nottingham Forest v Newcastle United
Forest defender James Perch is back in training but is still a few weeks away from match fitness.
But striker Robert Earnshaw(1gl) will definitely be missing with a calf injury, as too defender Julian Bennett who continues his recovery.
Newcastle will assess defenders Steven Taylor(1gl) & Fabricio Coloccini(1gl) before naming their side against Forest.
Former Forest striker Marlon Harewood(1gl) has been passed fit as too Jose Enrique(1asst),as Newcastle look to extend their lead at the top.
