October 23rd, 2009 / davidp

Coca Cola Championship Injuries/Suspensions Team News – 23/24 October 2009

Watford v Sheffield Wednesday
Hornets midfielder Tom Cleverly(5gls,1asst) will have to pass a late fitness test while striker Heidar Helguson(2gls) is close to a return but may have to settle for a place on the bench if he makes it at all.
Nathan Ellington(1gl) may make a rare start but skipper Jay de Merit is again ruled out with an eye infection.
Wednesday await the fitness tests of Richard Wood(2gls),leading scorer Marcus Tudgay(5gls,3assts) & Etienne Esajas(2gls,2assts).
Midfielder Tommy Miller & forwards Francis Jeffers and Akpo Sodje are all pushing for starts if Woods/Tudgay/Esajas are ruled unfit.

Barnsley v Bristol City
Barnsley defender Bobby Hassell has an outside chance of making the side this week.
It seems likely that manager Mark Robins will stick with an unchanged side, although Andy Gray(3gls) & Daniel Bogdanovic are pushing for starts.
Bristol City could include Gavin Williams & Ivan Sproule as they scored midweek.
However Liam Fontaine & Brian Wilson will still be missing with long-term injuries.

Coventry City v West Brom
Coventry’s Leon Best(5gls) is a major doubt as they host fellow Midlands rivals West Brom.
Aron Gunnarsson will definitely be missing with a suspected broken leg, and with Sammy Clingan(3gls) also out, City have limited options available.
West Brom will put striker Roman Bednar through a late fitness test ahead of this match with Coventry.
Chris Brunt(4gls) might make the bench for this fixture.

Crystal Palace v Nottingham Forest
Palace manager Neil Warnock is hoping Victor Moses(1asst) is fit ahead of the game against Forest.
Former Forest striker Stern John is hoping for a recall against his former club, while leading striker Darren Ambrose(4gls) could make a return. However, striker Calvin Andrew has been ruled out with a knee injury.
Forest will be missing midfielder Guy Moussi(1gl) through suspension and serves a 1 match ban.
Leading scorer Dexter Blackstock(5gls,2assts) is definitely out, while Nathan Tyson(1gl) is rated as doubtful.
Full-back Joel Lynch could return after food-poisoning, but Robert Earnshaw may have to sit this one out.

Newcastle United v Doncaster Rovers
Newcastle will be without skipper Alan Smith as they look to get all 3 points, while Fabricio Coloccini is available again after injury.
Shola Ameobi(4gl) is pushing for a recall, while Joey Barton is still a few weeks away from returning.
Doncaster hope that Gareth Roberts is fit following a groin injury.
A few key players will miss the trip though; Brian Stock(1asst), Adam Lockwood(92gls) & Byron Webster are all unfit.

Peterborough United v Scunthorpe United
Peterborough hope to Grimsby defender Ryan Bennett on loan but mat not make this game in time.
However, first choice left-back Tom Williams(4assts) is sidelined with an ankle injury, while midfielder Paul Coutts is out with a foot injury.
Scunthorpe striker Gary Hooper(5gls,3assts) is a concern for The Iron, but Michael O`Connor(1gl,1asst) returns from suspension and Josh Wright is expected to start again.
Ben May & Kenny Milne are still injured and will miss the game.

Plymouth Argyle v Ipswich Town
It’s an early relegation battle as Plymouth take on Ipswich; defender Kari Arnason is available again following a chest infection.
But Bradley Wright-Phillips sits out again due to injury.
Ipswich hand a late fitness test to striker Jon Walters(4gls,1asst), while fellow young striker Connor Wickham is away on international duty.
Tamas Priskin(1gl) and Jonathan Stead(1asst) are waiting in the wings for recalls.

Preston North End v Middlesbrough
Preston skipper Callum Davidson could make his long awaited return on Saturday.
Paul Parry could start, but Barry Nicholson is still sidelined with a broken leg.
Managerless Boro are dangerously close to appointing Gordon Strachan as their next manager if rumours are to be believed.
I for one do not agree that Strachan would be a good choice – why? He managed to relegate Coventry City & Southampton from the Premiership in close succession, and Boro trust him to get them back up…I don’t think so!
Caretaker-manager Colin Cooper has Julio Arca returning from suspension, while Seb Hines is rated as doubtful.
Riggott, Taylor, Folan & Bates still remain sidelined.

Sheffield United v Cardiff City
United’s new signing Henri Camara will make his debut against Cardiff, as there are no less than 8 first team regulars out through injury.

Cardiff have no major injuries, as forward Kelvin Etuhu is looking to return from an ankle injury.

Playmaker Andrea Orlandi has been definitely ruled out though,
Blackpool have the services of winger Ishmel Demontagnac once more before he serves a 3 match ban.
The Tangarines will be without strikers Stephen McPhee & Daniel Nardiello, along with defender Danny Coid.
