Coca Cola Championship Injuries/Suspensions Team News – 3 October 2009
Coventry City v Leicester City
Coventry will definitely be missing David Bell and James McPake ahead of
their East Midlands derby with Leicester City.
Defenders Ben Turner & Marcus Hall(1asst) are both rated doubtful, but
Isaac Osbourne(2assts) is pushing for a recall after coming on as a sub
in the midweek win against Watford.
Leicester are waiting on the fitness of midfielder Richie
Wellens(2assts) before finalising his team.
Defender Aleksander Tunchev has definitely been ruled out though as he
requires knee surgery.
Preston North End v West Brom
Preston’s Liam Chivers(1asst) should be declared fit despite a
dead-leg,but Callum Davidson,Paul Parry and Barry Nicholson all remain out.
West Brom will again be without James Morrison,Marek Cech(2gls and Luke
Moore(2gls) while Ishmael Miller still remains sidelined.
Youssuf Mulumbu(2gls) should be fit, but Jerome Thomas(1gl) sits out his
third and final game of his suspension.
Barnsley v Ipswich Town – Over 2.5 goals
Barnsley midfielder Anderson De Silva(1gl) is doubtful ahead of their
basement clash against Ipswich Town.
On-loan keeper Bartosz Bialkowski is set to continue between the sticks
despite Luke Steele recovering from a broken finger.
Ipswich skipper Alex Bruce(1gl) is still missing with a groin injury, so
Tommy Smith is set to continue in central defence with Gareth McAuley(1gl).
Crystal Palace v Blackpool – Under 2.5 goals
Palace are waiting on a late fitness test for Victor Moses(1asst), and
defenders Paddy McCarthy(1asst) and Claude Davis may also miss out due
to a virus.
Strikers Freddie Sears and Stern John are both ruled out again.
Blackpool also have injury concerns ahead of Saturday’s trip.
Ian Evatt(1gl),Danny Coid and Ishmel Demontagnac are set to miss the match.
Tangerines strikers Daniel Nardiello,Gary Taylor-Fletcher(2gls,1asst)
and Stephen McPhee are all struggling to be fit.
Derby County v Sheffield Wednesday
Derby have somewhat of an injury crisis when they entertain Sheffield
Wednesday; Paul Connolly,Miles Addison(2gls),Giles Barnes,Chris
Porter,Steven Davies(1asst) and Stephen Pearson(1asst) are all set to
miss out.
However, James Vaughan,Jake Buxton(1gl,1asst) and Dean Leacock could all
return.
Wednesday striker Luke Varney is ineligible to play against his current
club,so Marcus Tudgay(5gls,3assts) looks set to continue as the lone
frontman.
Newcastle United v Bristol City
Newcastle will be without midfielder Joey Barton as he underwent a foot
operation and will be out for a few months.
Ryan Taylor(2gls,3assts) and defender Fabricio Coloccini(1gl) also look
set to be missing.
Bristol City will be without Jordan Walker,Andrius Velicka and Paul
Hartley(1gl,1asst) as they travel to St.James Park for their clash with
the Toon.
Peterborough v Nottingham Forest
Peterborough will be missing Jamie Day with a foot injury, so Tommy
Williams(3assts) is set to continue at full-back.
Charlie Lee is doubtful so Gabriel Zakuani is standing by to replace him.
Forest could welcome back defender Kelvin Wilson to the squad as they
look to build on two wins in the last two games.
However, James Perch and Julian Bennett continue to be sidelined.
Plymouth Argyle v Scunthorpe United
Plymouth defender Marcel Seip has joined rival Championship side
Blackpool on loan.
Argyle midfielder Kari Arnason is doubtful after missing the midweek
game v Peterborough.
Rede Johnson and defender Chris Barker are both doubtful.
Scunthorpe welcome back leading scorer Gary Hooper(4gls,1asst) to the
squad when they make their way to the South-West.
David Mirfin is rated 50/50 so Cliff Byrne(1gl) is set to continue.
Keeper Joe Murphy should also be fit to play. However, Ben May and Kenny
Milne continue to be sidelined.
Reading v Middlesbrough – Over 2.5 goals
The Royals will be missing Chris Armstrong,Radoslav Vasilev and striker
Shane Long is doubtful after missing the away game at Preston in midweek.
Middlesbrough will travel to REading without striker Caleb Folan and
defender Chris Riggott.
However, Emmanuel Pogatetz,Justin Hoyte and Didier Digard may all travel
with the squad.
Sheffield United v Doncaster Rovers
The Blades will be without leading scorer Jamie Ward(4gls,1asst) and
defender Gary Naismith, while Matthew Kilgallon(1gl) is rated doubtful.
Keith Treacy(1gl,4assts) may be declared fit following a knee injury.
Doncaster’s on-loan striker Billy Sharp(1gl,1asst) is ineligible to play
against his current club.
Jason Shackell is pushing for a recall, but James Coppinger and Adam
Lockwood(2gls) will need to pass late fitness tests.
Swansea City v QPR – Under 2.5 goals
Swansea have been dealt a major injury blow with influential midfielder
Ferrie Bodde looking likely to miss the rest of the season with a
cruciate knee ligament injury.
However, Jordi Lopez is available after serving a one match suspension,
as is Nathan Dyer(1asst).
Leon Britton,Andrea Orlandi and Cedric Van der Gun will all have to pass
late fitness tests, but Gorka Pintado sits out as he is suspended.
QPR look likely to be without defender Fitz Hall,Angelo Balanta,Matt
Connolly,Gareth Ainsworth and Lee Cook.
Watford v Cardiff City
Watford’s virus epidemic seems to have subsided and they are almost at
full strength when they host Cardiff who thrashed Derby 6-1 in midweek.
Only Heidar Helguson(2gls) and Jay De Merit are likely to be missing.
Scott Severin is back in training and may be included.
Cardiff City will probably be missing striker Ross McCormack along
with full-back Kevin McNaughton along with long-term absentee Kelvin Etuhu.
