Colombia v Peru Copa America Football Betting Odds & Preview – July 16th, 2011

Colombia really look to be one of the biggest threats to the Brazilian and Argentinean powerhouses to win the 2011 Copa America and Colombia v Peru betting is the next card to look at as the competition hits the quarter final stage. Colombia topped Group A ahead of Argentina with two wins and a draw from their three matches, and truthfully, they could easily have topped things off with three wins from three had they converted some good chances against Argentina. They are a bit of a surprise package coming into the tournament, as we have not seen a great Colombian side for many years. This one has the potential of being very good, but most interestingly of all, there is the feeling that we have yet to fully see the best of this current side. While Brazil and Argentina have struggled to get out of first gear at times, Colombia have been sat comfortably in second gear all through the tournament, and there is the prospect of being ready to deliver a lot more when the right time comes. They have yet to concede a goal and look a real threat going forward, with Falcao with a couple in their three matches so far. Colombia have adopted a wide stance when going forward, deliberately playing with two orthodox wide men in five man midfield, with Radamel Falcao leading the line. There is a lot of width, a lot of pace and creativity in there, and the balance of their midfield does look very good. Winning Group A over Argentina may have come as a big surprise to many, but they have been fully deserving of it, and their prize has been what should prove to be a very comfortable Quarter Final match against Peru. Peru finished third in Group C behind Chile and Uruguay, winning one, drawing one and losing one of their group matches. Although they have battled well and picked up a win over the very disappointing Mexico, Peru should not be too much of a challenge for Colombia. Despite being a tight and organised side, they don’t really have too much too offer going forward for the quarter final stage of a major tournament. This is the Peru side which finished bottom of the South American qualification zone for the 2010 World Cup. So they have a long way to go, and the way Colombia have been playing, there should not be too much doubt over the result here. Take a good look at Colombia in your outright betting, because they do not look as if they are playing under any kind of pressure, and yet they have a lot more to bring to the table. They could potentially run into Argentina in the semi finals, but that is nothing which should phase them.
