Well, it is not going to be the big Roger Federer vs. Juan Martin del Potro in the final of the ATP World Tour Finals at the London O2 Arena on Sunday. Federer, the World Number One, fell in a shock semi final defeat to Nikolay Davydenko. That was the Russian’s thirteenth attempt at beating Federer, and finally all of his grit and determination paid off. Federer started off the stronger of the two, but the longer the game went on, the more his game seemed to fall apart, and for once, Davydenko was able to hang on and press home an advantage over his peer. Although not expected to win, the success over the superstar Swiss native, means that Davydenko reaches the final for the second year in a row.

Roger Federer had lost his last group match against Del Potro, and the tennis which has been played in the ATP World Tour Finals has shown that perhaps the gap between the top eight players in the world is a lot smaller than some may think. Of course, because it is the end of a long season, and players may be tiring, some players may be able to take advantage of that. Del Potro’s appearance in the latter stages of the tournament, only came at the expense of losing just one game, not set, less that Britain’s Andy Murray, who Murray had already beaten in the Round Robin format.

The other semi final between Davydenko and Robin Soderling turned up another sparkling array of tennis, as anyone following it on Bet365’s live streaming service will attest to. The first and the third set went to a tie break, with Robin Soderling winning the first and looking in control. Soderling beat Rafael Nadal in the group stages, which was the start of the upsets at the tournament, and he looked to be in position to pull off another against the heavy hitting Argentine. Del Potro, who won the US Open earlier in the year continues to prove his mettle though. His defter and more extensive array of shots in his arsenal proved to be the difference as he hung on and better still, staged a fight back in order to reach the final.

Now both Davydenko and Del Potro have to lift their games one more time for Sunday’s final. This is the last stop on the ATP tour for the year, the biggest prize outside of the four majors. If you are hoping to catch it, then account holders with Bet365 are being provided a free live streaming of the match from the online bookmaker’s excellent service. Both players will now be fancying their chances. Davydenko played in last year’s final, losing out to  Novak Djokovic, and Del Potro is looking for the chance to round off a wonderful year. The 21 year old South American has grown in stature and class from the beginning of the year, and is becoming someone to be feared on the ATP circuit.
