England will look to build on their comfortable opening win in the Autumn Series against Fiji,as they head into action against their old rivals, Australia on Saturday. England have won the last two meetings between the nations but make face a fierce backlash from the Wallabies. Australia were hammered in Paris last weekend, going down 33-6 against the French and they will no doubt want to prove a big point, especially in the early stages as they take to the field at Twickenham. Just because of that heavy defeat, England still have to be wary and cautious about the threat that the Wallabies will bring with them. Australia didn’t have a smooth ride in the Rugby Championship this season (the updated version of the Tri Nations), losing against South Africa and New Zealand. So there are some inconsistencies there which England could take advantage of, but Australia are still capable of running things from deep and when they click, they are more than a handful.

England can’t take a lot from the win over Fiji in which a lot of young new talent was blooded by coach Stuart Lancaster. They will need to hold on to more possession against the Wallabies than they did against Fiji, but overall, while England took a lot of positives from individuals, and were looking quite dynamic with their running game, it’ll be a totally different kettle of fish against Australia. But England may not be too far away, having pushed South Africa close in two of their three summer tests, before rounding out the third with a draw. Saturday’s game could all come down to the scrum though, an area where England have dominated the Wallabies in recent times, and that may just be the edge to give England the win.

The overall head to head between the two nations stands at 23 wins for Australia against 16 from England and one draw. England have won the last two, Australia taking the previous three in a row prior to that.
