FA Cup Replays – Tuesday

February 2nd, 2010 / Lee A Jackson

There are two FA Cup replays on Tuesday night, with places in the last 16 up for grabs. After being held to a 2-2 draw at home, Wolves travel to Championship strugglers Crystal Palace, looking for a tricky away win which would secure them a home tie against high flying, Carling Cup finalists Aston Villa. Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock has just made the sale of teenage striker Victor Moses to Premier League side Wigan. There had been other clubs in the hunt for the talented youngster, but he secured his move to the English top flight.

Palace gave their Championship survival hopes a boost, with a 2-0 win over bottom side Peterborough on the weekend, which saw them move four points ahead of the drop zone. Wolves, in the Premier League, themselves are in their own relegation battle and the FA Cup is offering some important extra income and increasing team spirit ahead of their fight for survival. They struggled to a 2-2 result away at Hull on the weekend, one of the only three teams beneath them in the league.

Match Prices:
Crystal Palace to win: 13/8 at SkyBet
Draw: 12/5 at Totesport
Wolverhampton to win: 7/4 at Bet365

Wigan, who were surprising held to a 2-2 draw away at Notts County, have the chance to fix things with the return home fixture. They had to battle their way back from a shock 2-0 deficit, just to earn themselves a replay. Wigan, after a bright early part of the season, have fallen away in form, and are rapidly heading towards the relegation zone. They currently sit just two points ahead of Burnley, who are third from bottom in the Premier League. Wigan have signed Victor Moses from Crystal Palace, in an attempt to boost their goal production, but he will be cup-tied for the FA Cup, and therefore will have to wait to make his debut.

Notts County are the only representatives from League Two
left in this year’s FA Cup, and are therefore the lowest ranked team. They are on a decent run of form, and that will mean they will arrive at Wigan with high hopes. They have won four of their last five matches, with the anomaly being the 2-2 draw with Wigan. Notts County are aiming high this season, and they have played their way into a comfortable play-off position. They currently sit fifth in the league, with the second best goal difference. They have banged in 52 goals this season, and have only conceded 21, meaning Wigan could be in for another difficult evening. The winner of the tie will earn themselves an away tie at Fulham in the next round.

Match Prices:
Wigan to win: 5/11 at Coral
Draw: 7/2 at Bet365
Notts County: 15/2 at SkyBet
