Following trainers in horse race betting

There is a large cult following of trainers in Horse race betting with many punters and there are many reasons for this. Identifying successful stables even if that stable is only temporarily successful can be a path to profits in horse race betting. There are many information websites available these days and non are better than the Racing Post site for information on races, trainers, jockeys, going etc.

It is clearly an advantage to know certain trainers well. For instance if a trainer is sending a horse hundreds of miles to a meeting when he had the option to send it to meetings far closer then this could be a serious indication that the trainer thinks that his horse has a great chance in this particular race. This could be to do with the opposition or the course or a combination of factors.

Also looking at whether or not a yard is in form could be another interesting factor to look at. Some people dismiss trainer form as simple anomalies but looking deeper into the situation reveals that there are patterns which can be identified and then potentially taken advantage of. For instance before we look at “form” then we need to analyze what “form” actually is. In the strictest sense of the word, “form” means a competitor or team that is performing well and getting a good run of results.

In all sports “form” can be fleeting and it can be here one minute and gone the next but that does not mean that we should blindly ignore it. If the run of results is merely randomness then what we see as “good form” can largely be dismissed. But if on closer investigation it is revealed that there are underlying reasons for why a certain stable is producing a string of good results then it cannot be ignored.

It could be that a certain trainer is gearing their training methods to produce their horses for certain types of races and quite a few of these ideal races have cropped up recently. Possibly it could be that several of the horses in the stable are reaching maturity at the same time and achieving better performance because of that. So if you can find out if there are underlying reasons as to why certain stables are producing good results then this cannot be ignored.

Historically you may find that certain trainers do better at different times of the year. There are all sorts of reasons for this but this just underlines why horse race betting is such an involved business. What this means of course is that for the prospective punter then it simply isn’t possible to analyze any race in a short period of time like twenty minutes for instance. Usually unless you are using some computerized program then it probably wouldn’t be possible to analyze more than a handful of horse races in any given day. Also much of the work would need to be done on previous days as well to take away some of the work load on the actual day of the race itself.
