Novak Djokovic v Gael Monfils – Final BNP Paris Masters

November 14th, 2009 / Lee A Jackson

The BNP Paris Masters Tennis has reached the final, with Andy Murray falling a long way short in his second round match against Radek Stepanek. It is Serbian Novak Djokovic who has battled his way through to the final, after he fairly demolished Rafael Nadal in the Semi Final. The Serb, who is ranked number three in the World, continued on his fine run of form, by dumping the Spaniard Nadal out of the tournament 6-2, 6-3. The BNP Paris Masters is the final tournament on the Men’s ATP season, and there are valuable points up for grabs in order to qualify for the season finale showcase, the World Finals in London. With Nadal’s departure, went his hopes of ending his barren spell, in which he hasn’t won a title since May of this year. He never looked a match for Stepanek, as the Spaniard was having difficulty getting his serve going and making unforced errors a-plenty.

In the other semi final, Gael Monfils, playing in front of his home crowd, battled his way past Andy Murray’s conqueror  Radek Stepanek in their semi final match, something which will have delighted the Paris crowd. Monfils didn’t ease his way across the finish line, not as his final opponent Djokovic did anywy. Monfils had to work hard to break Stepanek’s dogged determination over three sets, and will start as underdog to Djokovic in the final on Sunday. Djokovic recently beat Roger Federer in the Basle, Switzerland final last week, and will look to add this title to his honou roll while he is in such a good run of form. In contrast between the two players, Djokovic looks to be on top of his game, definitely securing and effortless, and some may say, perfect performance to brush aside Nadal.

Novak Djokovic to win: 2/7 at Stan James
Gael Monfils to win: 5/2 at Stan James

From a betting point of view, it looks like backing a dead cert by laying odds on the short price for Djokovic. But then, there is no such thing as a dead cert, just a very strong favourite. You could always back it up with a punt on Djokovic winning in just two sets, which will fetch 4/9 at Boylesports
