PGA Humana Challenge 2012 Golf Betting Odds, Tips and Preview
Kuchar favourite for California Pro-Am challenge
January 19th, 2012 / Lee A Jackson
The Humana Challenge 2012 golf betting challenge tees off this week in the California desert, and this is a pro-am event, which is sponsored by the William J Clinton Foundation and Humana. This is a 72 hole tournament, with the first three rounds, which start on Thursday seeing the pro’s paired up with an amateur, before the just the pro’s shoot it out on the final day. The tournament is one of those which goes over multiple courses, three in fact this time out, with the Palmer Private, the Niklaus Private and the La Quinta Country Club and the challenges for the pro’s here really aren’t going to be that tough because these are, by and large some pretty straight forward and simple courses which shouldn’t pose too much of a challenge. So you can expect a whole bunch of low scoring rounds here with plenty of action. With dry weather the greens are going to be quite fast and as long the approach work to the greens is there, low scoring really will be at a premium. With the new season really still in its infancy just a couple of weeks into January, there isn’t a lot of form to go into for the 2012 season. We saw Steve Stricker take the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, and then Johnson Wagner pop up for the Sony Open in Hawaii, but we are awaiting some fireworks still. There is a good field of pro’s in attendance for Humana Challenge golf betting in California this week and the defending Champion is Jhonattan Vegas. Venezuelan Vegas has made two outings so far, a decent -3 under at the Sony Open with a T46 finish, and a struggle at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions where he finished six over par. So not exactly showing the kind of form that as, defending champion he will pop up again and hold on to his title in this event and he is trading way out at 66/1 with Bet365 for this year’s renewal.
The actual front runner in the betting is American Matt Kuchar, who has a great recent record at the event including a T7 here last year. He hasn’t been out yet this season and therefore he should be pretty fresh to have a run at the event here. The season before last he finished as runner up, so has a good track record and the thing about Kuchar is that you expect him to be consistent and find the greens, and therefore he will simply be in contention. Plays effortless golf at times, and is the bookies favourite in the field to go on and take the title in Humana Challenge golf betting, and is trading very well priced at 16/1 with SkyBet. Nothing wrong at all at those odds in getting behind Kuchar. Big Phil Mickelson, who has won the tournament twice is hot on Kuchar’s heels in Humana Challenge golf betting. It has been eight years since Mickelson lifted the title and hasn’t even attended for the last four years, so don’t read to much into his history. He also has been away for the game for a good couple six weeks, and is probably a shoo-in to make the cut, but wouldn’t take him to go all the way this early in the season coming in rusty just yet. Still, Phil Mickelson in the field at 18/1 with SkyBet is pretty tempting though. Scotland’s Martin Laird has gotten himself off to a nice confident start to the season, following a second placed finish at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, where he find in a super -20 under par for the four rounds. This really is what the Scot is capable and will likely land himself a title this year at some point, so why not back him to carry forward his good early form with a bet at the Humana Challenge? Was red hot with the putter at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions and makes for a great golf betting tip.
Bill Haas is another strong name which you should be looking at, as he pairs up well with the course. Has never missed the cut here and took the title in 2010. He also just missed out on defending the title last year when he was ousted in a play off. Simply a man in form when you look back over his stats, and he has posted a round of golf over seventy in his last twenty outings. Would be fully surprised if he is not up there challenging on Sunday, especially at a price of 18/1 with BetFair. So there is a pretty good field, with the likes of Dustin Johnson 25/1 at Stan James and Charles Howell III at 25/1 with Totesport, who both make reasonable shouts as well. Howell III comes in on great form after finishing T2 at last week’s Sony Open and is handily priced for a good charge at this one. So it is going to be a competitive four days in California where plenty of low scoring should be had for those who hit the green in regulation and those who are running hot and brave with the putter.
