Stan James are offering some great football specials all based on the close of the transfer window. While there wasn’t too much excitement movement going on involving the big clubs, the biggest drama was over the last minute deal sending Netherlands international Rafael Van Der Vaart to Tottenham from Real Madrid. There were some technical difficulties in getting the paper work sent through in time, but all was sanctioned and he is at White Hart Lane Ready to go. Former Chelsea star Eidur Gudjohnsen made a surprise transfer Stoke City, a surprise because the style of football which the Potters play, really isn’t association with the wonderful technical craft and guile that Gudjohnsen is known for. Still, perfect he can make a big impact at the club and influence a little more skill on the deck. Stoke also made a transfer deadline move for Jermaine Pennant who comes back to the Premier League. Pennant is one very few English players playing abroad in a top European league, as he is still under contract with Spanish side Real Zaragoza, and joins Stoke on a four month loan. Stoke boss Tony Pulis also picked up young Irish player Marc Wilson from Portsmouth.

Perhaps one of the most surprising transfers  came from Sunderland manager Steve Bruce picking up Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan. Gyan was a star at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, and it’s a little surprising that a bigger club, with all due respect to Sunderland, didn’t push hard for his signature. He is quick and as shown at the tournament, he is no slouch when it comes to finding the back of the net either. If he forms a partnership with Darren Bent, then the Sunderland attack could well be more than a handful for most Premier League defences.

Alexander Hleb
apparently turned down Spurs and Liverpool to join up with Alex McLeish at Birmingham City. The former Arsenal and Barcelona player is back in the Premier League and should add something of an extra attacking dimension for the Blues. Hleb is comfortable in the middle of the park or out on the right wing. Birmingham also landed Chilean international Jean Beausejour who was quite the livewire at the 2010 World Cup and after quite a barren year in front of goal last term, Birmingham are at least addressing the right areas and should make them stronger. The midlands club also grabbed much sought after Martin Jiranek one a one year deal as well.

New Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson went shopping at his old club Fulham, as he picked up left back Paul Konchesky to help make things a little more ship shape at the back for the Anfield club. Wigan picked up Blackburn’s failed experiment in striker Franco Di Santo, who just never fit the bill at Ewood Park and was eventually dropped from the side. Wigan also picked up Manchester United’s Tom Cleverley on loan for the season. There looks to be a big future for Cleverley at Old Trafford, but just couldn’t force his way into the team despite performing well during the pre-season. His move to Wigan will help get some Premier League matches under his belt at the very least. Speaking of Blackburn, they picked up defender Pascal Chimbonda.

With Stan James you can try and earn yourself some winnings out of the last minute deals that went through at the close of the summer transfer window. The online bookmaker offer odds on them managing to find the back of the net on their debuts for their respective new clubs. It is something that happens quite regularly as players are keen to make an impact and you often get that little extra effort. While the strikers will be the shortest in odds, don’t discount the likes of defender Chimbonda at Blackburn popping up and netting a goal. Blackburn like their set plays and he will certainly be one to benefit along the way.

To Score on their Premier League Debut for their new club at Stan James
Eidur Gudjohnsen (Stoke) 9/4
Franco Di Santo (Wigan) 7/2
Asamoah Gyan (Sunderland): 4/1
Tom Cleverly (Wigan) 9/2
Rafael Van Der Vaart (Spurs): 5/1
Jean Beauteous (Birmingham) 7/1
Alexander Hleb (Birmingham) 8/1
Jermaine Pennant (Stoke) 8/1
Paul Konchesky (Liverpool) 25/1
Marc Wilson (Stoke) 25/1
Pascal Chimbonda (Blackburn) 25/1
Martin Jiranek (Birmingham) 25/1

Next domestic football Matches (as this will influence your betting strategy on the above):
Everton v Man Utd
Arsenal v Bolton
Fulham v Wolverhampton
Man City v Blackburn
Newcastle v Blackpool
West Brom v Tottenham
West Ham v Chelsea
Wigan v Sunderland
Birmingham v Liverpool
Stoke v Aston Villa, 20:00

While Stan James offer odds on the new signings scoring on their club debuts, there is also a market for you to explore, which hints at those same players making such an impact over the course of the year that they get themselves recognised by the PFA. Certainly the likes of Paul Konchesky at Liverpool is one of those marvellously consistent performers who could well play his well into contention, but you have to consider that the left back would be up against the likes of Chelsea’s Ashley Cole. How about Rafael Van Der Vaart having a storming season at White Hart Lane as Tottenham enjoy Champions League football for the first time, or will Sunderland’s Asamoah Gyan light up the goal scoring charts? Head on over to Stan James to make your selections.

To Be Included In The 2011 PFA Premier League Team Of The Year at Stan James
Paul Konchesky 10/1
Rafael Van Der Vaart 11/1
Asamoah Gyan 16/1
Jean Beausejour 33/1
Alexander Hleb 33/1
Eidur Gudjohnsen 33/1
Pascal Chimbonda 33/1
Jermaine Pennant 50/1
Martin Jiranek 50/1
Stipe Pletikosa 50/1
Marc Wilson 100/1
Tom Cleverley 100/1
Franco Di Santo 100/1

To cap off all of these exciting Premier League football betting on transfer markets, Stan James offer a welcome bonus of up to £25 for new customers. When your first bet gets settled on a new account, the online bookmaker will match that first stake up to the value of £25. Stan James are one of the highly recommended and trusted names in UK bookmaking, and they have a great site full of news, great prices and some excellent football promotions. They are currently running a season long 0-0 cash back promotion which covers any lost bets placed on Goalscorer markets. If you place any Goalscorer bet on a match listed on Stan James and the game plays out to 0-0 stalemate, then the online bookmaker will refund your lost stake, so that you can have another chance with your football betting.

Football Betting

The Carling Cup third round highlight throws up some interesting football betting, as the draw throws together North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham at White Hart Lane. Some serious bragging rights will be up for grabs in the glamour tie, and it will be interesting to see if both sides go with inexperienced line ups. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger usually sends out the youngsters in this competition in order to get some experience for them, so it will not be too much of a side if he goes down that route again. However, with Tottenham involved in their first ever season of Champions League football, boss Harry Redknapp may decide to also rest some of his senior players for the Carling Cup this year. The third round ties are played during the week of September 20th, and for a lot of clubs it offers chance of some silverware. The North London clash is arguably the biggest of the third round, but the draw still throws up some more interesting challenges.

Online bookmaker Stan James are running a new Goalscorer promotion for the 2010/11 season. When you make a bet on any Goalscorer market for any football match this season, Stan James will refund any lost stakes if the match ends in a 0-0 draw. This great offer covers all Goalscorer markets on Stan James for any football match from around the world, in any competition. This cover your Goalscorer bets up to a maximum of £250, and with England playing Switzerland on Wednesday, plus the return of the Premier League and Champions League coming, there’s plenty of football betting to come. Stan James have Chelsea pencilled in as favourites to win the Carling Cup though, at a price of 11/2.

Manchester United picked up last year’s Cup at Wembley, with a controversial win over Aston Villa, and they get one of the easier third round ties, as they have to face Scunthorpe from the Championship. Similarly, new Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson will be pleased with his side coming out of the hat against Northampton from League Two. More likely than not, the Carling Cup will be a big focus for Hodgson, as he tries to bring some happier days back to Anfield. Will the Carling Cup be their one domestic success of the season as they look to get back on their feet? Football betting on the Carling Cup has them reasonably priced, but of course behind the stronger forces of Chelsea and Manchester United. Premier League Champions and FA Cup holders Chelsea will enjoy a home tie against Premier League opposition Newcastle. Manchester City, who will also be desperate to add silverware to the cabinet after a lot of barren years and a lot of spending. They also face Premier League opposition in the shape of West Brom, but both City and Chelsea will of course be expected to progress.

Other all Premier League clashes throw together Aston Villa and Blackburn, plus Sunderland and West Ham and Stoke v Fulham. One of the most poignant clashes will come when Bolton play Burnley. Current Bolton boss Owen Coyle left Burnley half way through their season in the Premier League last year, to take charge at Burnley. Naturally the Burnley fans weren’t too happy about him abandoning them while they were struggling to go to a northern rival, so no doubt there will be some uproar and hostilities again from the Burnley fans who saw their side relegated while Bolton survived.

Carling Cup Third Round Ties to be played during week of September 20
Brentford v Everton
Portsmouth v Leicester
Stoke v Fulham
Chelsea v Newcastle
Aston Villa v Blackburn
Tottenham v Arsenal
Mill wall v Ipswich
Wolves v Notts County
Burnley v Bolton
Birmingham v MK Dons
Liverpool v Northampton
Scunthorpe v Man Utd
West Brom v Man City
Sunderland v West Ham
Peterborough v Swansea
Wigan v Preston

Shakhtar Donetsk v Partizan Belgrade

If you think that you can easily predict the outcome of all those match day one fixtures, then SportingBet is the place to go to in order to make your football knowledge work for you. There looks to be some certain bankers in there such as Real Madrid, Arsenal, Barcelona and Manchester United, but can you pull all sixteen fixtures out of the bag? £10,000 is on the line. The usual suspects will be the main challengers for the biggest prize in European football again this season, with Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid leading the charge. Let’s take a look at the Champions League contenders in a little more detail with Champions League football betting at SportingBet.

Barcelona: 5/2
Well, they didn’t get Cesc Fabregas, but how much of a difference will that really make to their chances of winning the Champions League? They fell short last year, and that hasn’t stopped them gunning for the prize they covet most. Interestingly they were drawn against Russian champions Rubin Kazan as they were last season, and Kazan managed to take five points off the Catalan giants. Will Barcelona be out for big time revenge this season? In a group with Panathinaikos and Copenhagen, they will be clear favourites to progress. Barcelona have moved Zlatan Ibrahimovic on loan to AC Milan, and moved Thierry Henry to the New York Red Bulls. They’ll hardly be missed after Barcelona signed David Villa and Adriano, along with Liverpool’s Javier Mascherano. They look much stronger than last year and are rightly instilled as favourites. They will have learned lessons from last year’s failures.

Real Madrid: 9/2
What can Jose Mourinho do here? He as hired at Inter Milan with the sole purpose of winning the Champions League, and he achieved that last year with a victory in the final over Bayern Munich. Now Mourinho has one of the biggest resources at his disposal and again, Real Madrid want Champions League glory. They will never get a better chance than with Mourinho at the helm, and with such a strong squad including Cristiano Ronaldo, Ricardo Carvalho and Germany World Cup star Mesut Ozil, Mourinho’s Madrid will have to be watched out for. Mourinho is a winner and he will make Madrid a much more economical and efficient outfit. They square off against Auxerre, Ajax and the tough challenge of AC Milan. Mourinho has proven himself time and time again, and can he bring European glory back to the new Galacticos, who have been hungry since 2001/02. Mourinho will make a huge difference to one of Europe’s already powerhouses. Very strong challenger.

Chelsea: 11/2
Boss Carlo Ancelotti will be hoping for more progress on the European front than what they achieved last season. Chelsea were beaten by eventual champions Inter Milan in the first knockout round of the competition last year, and was actually something which probably propelled them on to win the Barclays Premier League. Prolific striker Didier Drogba will get the chance to return to Olympic Marseille to face the club from which Chelsea purchased him, and on the other side of that, it will give Marseille boss Didier Deschamps a return to Stamford Bridge. The Blues will be favourites to win the group ahead of the French side, Spartak Moscow and Zilina, but Chelsea need to be a bit more savvy on the continent than they were last year. There have been changes at Chelsea with players departing, and Brazilian midfielder Ramires coming in, and the London side have blitzed their way to a fierce 100% winning record for the start of the new Premier League. This is the title which the club really want though, having come so close so many times.

Manchester United: 8/1
Alex Ferguson will want more from his men this year too. Last season they threw away a good position against Bayern Munich to crash out. It could really be the last chance for some of United’s aging stars to add more glamour to their trophy cabinets, and United will always be a threat. There is a sense that United and Chelsea are falling some way behind Barcelona and Real Madrid, but United have all the experience needed to go the distance again. Probably not as strong as they have been in past years, but they have a great draw for themselves against Valencia, Rangers and Bursaspor, that they have pretty much already booked their place in the knockout stage. Can they go all the way though? They showed frailties last year, just as Chelsea did, and remain firmly behind the favourites, but still worth a shot nonetheless.

Inter Milan: 12/1
Rafa Benitez took over where Jose Mourinho left off at Inter Milan, but there is just the feeling that there is no way they are going to be able to repeat the success of last year. The managerial difference between Mourinho and Benitez is vast, and that already puts the Italian side behind other challengers. They are back in the Champions League football betting because they haven’t got as good a squad as the teams listed above, and it will be such a tough task for Benitez to emulate Mourinho and win the Champions League for the club again. It is a most unlikely scenario and they will probably be found wanting.

Arsenal: 14/1
A great Champions League side which tries to do everything the right way. But Arsenal are a young side and they probably haven’t quite got the necessary experience to go all of the way. Arsene Wenger has a wonderful crop of young players, but it is unlikely to be enough. They will have some fantastic nights in Europe again this year, and at the Emirates they will always be strong. They were blown away by Barcelona last year in the knock-out stage, and defensively they will have to be much stronger.

AC Milan: 18/1
They picked up striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but as shown when they played Manchester United last year, they looked a yard short of pace and quality to compete with the very best in Europe. They did a good job of turning their season around after a slow start, but can the capture of Manchester City’s Robinho push them on a little further this year. They need an injection of pace and that’s what he will bring alongside Ronaldinho and Andrea Pirlo. They have good parts, but not strong enough of team most likely.

Tottenham: 33/1
Not the easiest of welcomes for Tottenham in the Champions League. Boss Harry Redknapp will be licking his lips at his first taste of Group action. He pulled off quite a coup on the transfer window deadline day by signing Holland World Cup star Rafael Van Der Vaart from Real Madrid. His playmaking skills will add a little experience and quality to the side. They have Inter Milan, FC Twente and Werder Bremen to contend with. For a team making their Champions League debut, that’s not a particularly easy ride. Spurs may well grow in to the role of Champions League participants this year, but they really need to grab this chance with both hands as a return next season is no guarantee with the competitiveness of the Barclays Premier League.

BetFred will be a great green to drive your way towards for this weekend for your golf betting. The online bookmaker constantly runs a golf betting promotion, which covers your potential loss with a free bet. For this to happen, the player that you backed has to lose in a play-off. If he does, then BetFred will refund your lost stake in the form of a free bet, up to a maximum of £250. This week’s tournament at the Sedgefield Club in North Carolina, is a PGA Tour event which did finish in a tie last year, in fact it was a three way tie, so if that happens again and your player misses out by the skin of his teeth, then you will be covered. Fortunately with golf, because fields are so big, you can always pick up some great odds, with pre tournament favourites usually starting well out at around 12/1 or more. BetFred, otherwise known as the Bonus King offer new customers up to £50 in free bets. This comes when you place your first bet on a new account, and your first stake will be matched by the online bookmaker.

The Wyndham Championship is the final event on the US PGA Tour for this season, which means that the players entering are down to their last ditch attempts to gain FedExCup points. The top 125 players on the FedExCup points list, carry on for the season in play-off tournaments to see who wins the coveted honour. The course in North Carolina is a par 70, but has historically led to a lot of low scoring, which means that there will be a lot of close running at the top of the leader board. Last year’s exciting event ended with a three way tie between Ryan Moore, Jason Bohn and Kevin Stadler, all of which finished on 16 under for the tournament. That is a good figure to aim for if you are looking for scores at which to aim and judge your golf betting strategy for. Ryan Moore will be back to defend his title, after winning the play-off at Wyndham last year. Moore will make a great bet again this year as he did exactly what needs to be done at this course. The course can be attacked, but Moore hit nearly 80% of all fairways and around the same figure of getting to the greens in regulation. That high degree of accuracy is definitely needed at the Wyndham Championship. Here in out Golf Betting Guide for this exciting climax to the regular season, we cast a punters eye over the field, for many of which, there is a lot at stake. This should be one major rollercoaster ride over the weekend, as players jostle for the title as well as FedExCup points in order to secure more top level golf for the rest of the year.

Ryan Moore – 20/1 at BetFred

Should be in good shape to defend his title at Wyndham, and he has nailed four top ten finishes this season as well. If anything to guide your golf betting strategy, then Moore should be full of excitement and confidence going back to the scene of his one and only PGA Tour title. He has made 15 of 19 cuts this year and has bagged one second place finish which was at the AT&T National. Scoring pretty decent in the averages, and his above average driving ability is what could pus him close again here.

Carl Pettersson – 18/1 at Bet365

Another former winner at the Wyndham Championship. Pettersson landed the tournament back in 2008, where he shot a wonderful final round of 61. He has gone low again this season recently, hitting a round of 60 at the RBC Canadian Open less than a month ago to win the title there at St George’s. This is a guy with three PGA Tour titles to his name since joining the Tour in 2006. He is firing his lowest averages of his career at the moment, and standing at number twenty in the FedExCup points, and you only get up there by being consistent. Good bet for making cuts and if he carries over the form from the RBC Canadian Open, where watching him he looked very comfortable in his driving, he should be a major threat. Doesn’t have the all round accuracy as Moore, but is very good once he gets on the green, where he ranks third on the PGA Tour for putting, as well has being ranked four on making birdies on par 4 holes for the season.

JJ Henry – 33/1 at SkyBet

Statistically a very good player, and the stand out stat to take into consideration at the Wyndham Championship, is that Henry is T33 for making greens in regulation this year, plus has an above average driving accuracy. The other thing which should play him into contention here is the fact that in his last outing he finished as runner up, so he could just be hitting form a the right time. Has a wonderful all round game and mightily consistent. Outside of Moore and Pettersson, he really looks like the strongest golf bet of the week.

Fredrick Jacobson – 50/1 at Paddy Power

Jacobson has never won a US PGA Tour title, but there is a good feeling about him going into this one. His best finish this year was a second place in Texas, but he knows that he has it in him to produce the goods to win here. He shot a great round of 64 on the final day last year to fire him up the leader board into the top twenty. If he can build on that kind of round from the off then he could be in the mix. Has three top ten finishes this year and has made 14 cuts out of 17 tournaments. His good greens in regulation percentage will be a definite plus at Sedgefield.

Brandt Snedeker – 30/1 at SkyBet

It’s always well worth looking at past champions on certain courses when you are planning your golf betting. Snedeker is another one, and he rolled into a tied fifth position last year, so is obviously comfortable going around the North Carolina course. Had an OK tournament at the US Open last week, but he is not one who regularly threatens the top of the leader board too often. Has one second place to his name this year, but has yet to back up his only PGA Tour title which was won in his very first year in 2007 at Sedgefield. An outsider bet, but one to carefully consider.

Fred Couples – 50/1 at Boylesports

There’s a famous golf name which you haven’t seen much of this year. He has only participated in six PGA tournaments this year, after working his year on the Champions Tour where he has won three tournaments. He has opted to play here instead of Major tournament on the Champions Tour, so he must have a good feeling about Wyndham. The veteran has 15 PGA Tour titles to his name, and his presence will be very welcome out on the course at Sedgefield. Looking at his stats, they back up just what a quality player he is, and he showed that old magic at the Masters earlier this year when he came in sixth. Well worth a punt without doubt.

Henrik Stenson – 55/1 at Victor Chandler
The Swede is on the fringes of making the FedExCup play-offs and needs a great tournament here to sneak his way in. The trouble is, is that he really hasn’t played all that much and has only one notable finish to his name this year, a third place finish at the British Open at St Andrews. He doesn’t need much more motivation other than making the cut for the FedExCup play-offs and realistically that should put him in with a decent chance at the Wyndham Championship where he has to perform. A total outside bet though, as his averages don’t really back up him making a charge for the top of the leader board.

The new football betting season officially kicks off with the Chelsea v Manchester United Community Shield, which takes place at Wembley on August 8th. That is just under a week now until England’s top two sides will stand toe to toe again, ready to battle it out for the first honours of the season. While it is just a supposed friendly match, the rivalry between the two teams will no doubt throw up an exciting match. Online Bookmaker Paddy Power is a great stop for all of your football betting requirements ahead of the new season, and now is the time to start taking advantage of early prices before teams settle down into their seasons and prices start getting cut. Paddy Power is pretty much known at the home of online betting specials and that is a great place to start, in order to get a good picture of just what they are about. First there is the welcome bonus, a vital part in the decision of how to select an online bookmaker, and Paddy Power offer a nice bonus of £50 for new customers. All you have to do to qualify for this generous offer is open a new account, make your deposit and when you make your first bet of up to a maximum of £50, that stake will be matched by the online bookmaker.

Community Shield Paddy Power Odds
Chelsea to win: 13/10
Draw: 9/4
Manchester United to win:
15/8

Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson will be keen to make an early impression on title rivals Chelsea this season, and while it won’t count for anything in the regular season, a good win over the Stamford Bridge crew would certainly set the Red Devils up with a boost of confidence. They have been in the US getting ready for their new season, and Ferguson looks to be putting some faith into his youngsters again. Quite who will be fielded for the Community Shield remains a mystery as Ferguson may go with a blend of youth and veterans, giving the likes of Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs a run out, while trying to get a bit more game experience for new signing Javier Hernandez. United are currently priced at 15/8 to win the match, while Chelsea are 13-10. A draw in this fixture is well worth looking at though, as the last three Community Shield encounters have ended in drawn matches. A drawn match at the end of 90 minutes means straight to penalty kicks. There is of course a great live in-play betting services available, which will be running for the big match.

If you are looking a little further ahead to the Barclays Premier League betting for the new season, then dropping by their outright bets on the season will see Chelsea favourites as 13/8 with Paddy Power. Manchester United are 9/4, with Manchester City close behind on 5/1. Just click through to any individual match selection and you will have the opportunity to get even deeper with a host of submarkets, from Correct Score, First and Last Goal scorer, Half Time/Full Time and Over/Under goals. All the betting submarkets you would expect are right there to explore, as well as being backed up by a comprehensive stats system to help guide your betting. Whether it is the World Cup, the Champions League or Premier League betting you are looking for, you will probably, with a little time searching the many sub markets and special bets, be able to find unique bets that you will not be able to find elsewhere.

Paddy Power also put forth a lot of these unique football bets, and here were take a quick preview of just some which are available for the new season of the Barclays Premier League. Chelsea are priced at 5/2 to be the team to keep the most clean sheets in the season, and are also priced at 9/2 to be the team to score the fastest goal on the opening weekend. The most potent goal scoring teams are the front runners in this category, and that is because both Chelsea and Manchester United are playing weaker opposition in West Brom and Newcastle respectively, but there really is no reason why any team can’t sneak an early goal. The likes of Manchester City are out at 20/1 but that is because they have tougher opposition in Spurs. Worth looking over this category and studying it, as you could pick up some nice odds. Out of the newly promoted teams, Newcastle, West Brom and Blackpool, the Toon Army are favourites to finish in the highest league position. These are the kind of Premier League special bets that Paddy Power are offering. Want more? Then how about the Premier League sack race? The pressure certainly is on Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini after his spending, and he is 4/1 to be the first manager to get the sack, the same price as Newcastle’s Chris Hughton. Another Paddy Power special covers players to score more goals than Emile Heskey this season, with Michael Own even priced short at 4/9 to do so. Check out the list for yourself.

In terms of match specials, Paddy Power have brought back their Half Time Saver money back special on accumulators of four-fold or larger. This is a great offer, which covers your bet if it is correct at halftime. If your accumulator then falls apart in the second half, the online bookmaker will refund all losing stakes. Another feature of Paddy Power’s football betting, is that they usually highlight a game surrounding a goal scorer. If a nominated goal scorer scores the last goal of the match, then all losing bets on goal scoring markets and more will be refunded. For this you will be well served to keep up to date on Paddy Power’s main page after you have signed up for your new account.

Paddy Power really excel with their horse racing betting services, and even when there is no live horse racing from around the world, you can keep happy by playing their great virtual horse racing betting. With an awesome stats section for the races and daily specials happening, Paddy Power really have their horse racing services down. Just as with football, there is commentary, stats and form to be studied, along with a full results service. It is just part of a vast sports book which makes the online bookmaker so popular, and along with streaming live sports on Paddy Power TV, Poker, Casino and games, Paddy Power really is one of the most popular online bookmakers available. From humorously titled special bets, to witty news features on the home page along with the latest betting highlights and live in-play prices. Just head over to Paddy Power, open a new account to make the most of your welcome bonus and an extensive betting service will be right at your fingertips.
